Hi there, wonder if anyone can help me on this one...

I happen to have a spare internal WWAN 3G card (Novatel EU870D), does anyone know if I could upgrade a Sony VGN-TT myself by installing this card?

I guess it'll be down to pre-installed antennas, compatible slot/space and SIM card reader.

On a seperate point, I wouldn't mind upgrading the memory too :)

    Appreciate any advice,

    Thanks,

    James :D

Look at the top right portion underneath the Blu-rey drive. The WWAN is squeezed in there.

Thanks for all your help guys - looking at the images, it seems the WWAN is not standard mini-PCI express...

Sony charge £185 for the WWAN upgrade which I think is a little excessive! So I think i'm going to opt for a Toshiba R600 instead :)

    Thanks again!

    denony,

The green IC is the the 1SEG tuner, the daughterboard that in place of the 1SEG tuner (WWAN models) has the minipci card on the top and the SIM Reader on the back of it. Please check the assembly manual.

    Any progress on this issue?

More specifically, is anyone thinking about a wwan upgrade on TT models that do not come with wwan? (for example, TT190 with SSD + 2nd HDD, no optical does not come with a wwan option).

The TT master thread here (post 1119) involves a discussion about efforts to translate this site describing how to disassemble the TT allowing one to perform various upgrades....

Perhaps it would be impossible to perform a wwan install on models such as the TT190......would this upgrade require internal antennas and specialized sockets?

    Hi all,
I have Vaio TT-250N with WWAN - Gobi chipset.
I was able to apply the software hack and to unlock it.
    Details:
    http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2009/02/hacking-3g-on-sony-vaio-p.html

I was stuck at the hardware hack because I was not sure if there is an empty SIM slot or I have to solder extra one.
As I can see on the pics there is a SIM card below the module. Dont know if it is region defendant (US vs UK) at least mine is US release.

Does somebody tried to add SIM card?

And one more detail - here is one VAIO TT WWAN module on ebay that I found:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Vaio-VGN...m20ad6e861d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_956

looks the same with SIM slot.

    Regards
    Vlad
