Just get one 2GB DDR3-800/1066 Module, if you already have 2GB DDR3-800/1066 installed.

I wouldn't say that getting 4gb from Sony is the cheapest way. When you order the laptop, you will get one 2Gb stick no matter what --> Sony is charging $150 for ONE extra 2gb stick which is relatively high compared to getting an extra 2gb after market (should be roughly $80 -120 retail or even cheaper if you know where to find deals)

I'm actually kind of interested in this thread. From the quick search I did, it seems that there are 2 choices (via newegg) for the OP:

    Patriot 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model PSD32G10662S - Retail
    OCZ 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model OCZ3M10662G - Retail

The "Patriot" brand is $89 and the "OCZ" brand is $105 but out of stock. These seem to be the closest match to what is shipped in the Z (PC3 8500). Does the brand make any difference in this case? I know there may be some quality differences, but is there an advantage to having all the same brand? If so, could one of you lucky Z owners let us know which brand they used?

I think it's best to have two of the same brand (however, there are differences in performance between brands - this will not apply to everybody since it's a very slight different). Check what is there already in your Z, buy a new one and put whichever better to the first slot which will be accessed more often and the slower one in the second slot.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was bit confused about this as well and began to regret my purchase.

for some reason, the rams of z series will be displayed maximum to 3gb, even if u install 4gb. i dunno it will take usage for 4gb and only shows 3gb, or totally eats the extra 1gb.

If you aren't using a 64-bit OS, 4GB of RAM is pointless as a 32-bit OS can only address ~3GB of memory.

its not cheaper buying from sony, you can buy a 2 gig stick form newegg for $60, so that will give you 4 gig for less then half the price.

Anyone find cheaper memory then newegg?
