Which after market upgrade should I get to upgrade the ram on the Vaio Z? Thanks!
-
US ? How much ? (4GB)
-
yes in the us, i have a 2 gb stick in already and i'd like to upgrade to 4 gb if possible.

for now...getting your DDR3 ram when getting your laptop from Sony is the cheapest way to max it out.
Check out newegg prices for DDR3 ram:

$230 for 4gb, vs $150 from Sony -
Yes, getting if from Sony might be the cheapest way. (If you haven't bought the notebook yet)
And you don't really need DDR3-1333 as it will downclock to DDR3-1066.

can't i just get one stick intead of getting two since I already have a 2 gb stick installed by sony? or do they have to be the same?
-
Just get one 2GB DDR3-800/1066 Module, if you already have 2GB DDR3-800/1066 installed.

I'm actually kind of interested in this thread. From the quick search I did, it seems that there are 2 choices (via newegg) for the OP:
Patriot 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model PSD32G10662S - Retail
OCZ 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model OCZ3M10662G - Retail
The "Patriot" brand is $89 and the "OCZ" brand is $105 but out of stock. These seem to be the closest match to what is shipped in the Z (PC3 8500). Does the brand make any difference in this case? I know there may be some quality differences, but is there an advantage to having all the same brand? If so, could one of you lucky Z owners let us know which brand they used? -

Does it matter which brand I go with? It seems there is a Crucial one too. Is one better than other? Should I buy two 2GB sticks rather than just one so that they are the same type? Thanks

I put the 2GB Patriot stick from new egg in my Z - works fine.

for some reason, the rams of z series will be displayed maximum to 3gb, even if u install 4gb. i dunno it will take usage for 4gb and only shows 3gb, or totally eats the extra 1gb.

wow~~ thx sleep0, i got

I've read many arguments on this but I've heard that it addresses only 3GB, but the remaining 1 GB is still used by video card and such.
I noticed that there are few types of 1066 Crucial DDR3 Rams at different price points. what are the differences? Would I lose anything by going with the cheaper one?

Thanks! -
does kingston make any ddr3 hyper-x ram for notebooks?
-
its not cheaper buying from sony, you can buy a 2 gig stick form newegg for $60, so that will give you 4 gig for less then half the price.
Anyone find cheaper memory then newegg?
