Recovery disk can restore only the default operating system your machine was shipped with.

I've never actually done it before, but the Windows Anytime Upgrade is a CD Key. In theory, you would only need to enter the new key after a recovery install.

Like using normal keys, you might have to call the activation hotline to have it reset if you reinstall often. It's somewhat painless if you can use the automated system. If you've reinstalled too often, they will route you to a support rep who will ask if you are using the key anywhere else. Tell them no and they will allow the activation.

I've done this many times, they've never rejected my request.

A better solution would be to do a stock install, enter the upgrade key, then backup the OS volume with Norton Ghost or Accronis.

I ordered my Z2 with the base version (Home Premium) and used the Anytime Upgrade with a key that I had.

Took about 10 minutes and worked like a charm. Kept all of the drivers, settings, etc.
