i was going to ask the same thing too lol. i need an answer also.
edit: just called customer care before according to them you can use the ddr2 533 (pc4200) but with all notebooks when you mix a slower ram with a faster ram the faster ram will goto the speed of the slower ram.
for example ddr2 533 1gb stick will converted to a ddr 400 1gb stick to run with the ddr2 400 512mb stick taht is already in the notebook. -
There are several on this forum (including myself) who have upgraded their S4 series notebooks with this type of memory, and since the S5 series is nearly identical the S4, I see no reason why this shouldn't work.

Don't understand why they use ddr2 3200 for S580.
Don't they have same mother board with S560? -
My S580 came with two sticks of 256MB DDR2 PC4200. I Upgraded it two two sticks of 1GB DDR2 PC4200, and yes the S4x0 and S5x0 use the same memory.

If you put in DDR2-533 (PC4200), I think you'll be fine. I recommend Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, or OCZ memory. Great, reliable brands. OCZ is more performance-oriented, while Kingston and Corsair are the best in my opinion for value brands..
Yes- if you have a PC3200 stick in there, the PC4200 stick will automatically downclock to match.
Use DDR2 PC4200 for VGN-S580?
