I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with the Express Card 34 SSDs out there such as this 96GB version on Newegg:

Newegg.com - Wintec FileMate 3FMS4D096JM-R ExpressCard 34 96GB USB 2.0 & SATAII MLC Internal / External Solid State Drive (SSD)

Or how well would a 32GB Memory Stick or 32GB SDHC/ 64GB SDXC work to store and watch HD movie files on?

These expandable media seem like the best way to increase storage space on our Z series computers without messing around with the Raid 0 config and getting rid of the disc drive.

IMO, those cards for extending storage space don't make sense. They are expensive and you will be capped at around 10 mb/s speed. Unless you are a photographer and you actually have a use for those high capacity cards, a better deal would be a usb flashdrive which runs at 20mb/s. If you copy data back and forth, this will be more fun.

I am not experienced in express card ssd's, but if they really live up to their promise in terms of speed, this would probably the best thing you can get: Fast, flush fit and good capacitys available. However, I would not store valuable information on those slide-in cards since it can be taken out in a second even if your laptop is locked.

I use both Memory stick and SD to expand my vaio Z storage.

My memory stick keeps giving me problems on the vaio (not anywhere else before), several times the partition has became unreadable and I am forced to format it. Since I am using a very good card and I haven't been hard on using it, I assume there is something wrong in the way my vaio treats this card.

My SD card works like a champ.

Someone has said skip memory cards because you are limited to around 10Mb/s. Well, that depends a lot on the card at use, since our card reader is pci-e based, and not internal USB, so chances are, that if you use a good card, you will get good performance from it.

My SD card is a Transcend 32gb class10 and always reads around 20Mb/s and writes around 15Mb/s. But I am a die hard fan of Extreme cards from Sandisk, I made an exception with this, because it was very cheap and supposed to be good. Neither transcend nor sandisk have let me down.

Express card storage upgrade sounds like a googd idea, initally better performance suited, but takes away other kind of expansion.

For example, I use express card for esata, firewire800 and usb 3.0, to hook up external drives.
