I just upgraded to Vista Home Premium, and after some driver headaches, I believe I have everything working properly. In XP, I had no issues using the built-in camera to capture video and sound into windows movie maker. However, now in Vista, seemingly the only option to capture; "Import From digital video camera" does not detect my built in camera. It gives the error message "Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device. Varify that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on."
How can I get Windows Movie Maker to recognize my camera? It's pretty useless to me if I can't use it to record video. Maybe I didn't get the camera installed properly?
thank you for any help!

I seem to remember in the VAIO manual that says that the camera isn't supported under Windows Movie Maker.
As far as I can remember. -
well it was supported perfectly in XP; i recored many (almost daily) video blogs for some time, until i just became too busy with classes.

Yes... XP. We're talking about VISTA here mate.

yeah, i know, but its not vista thats the problem, its windows movie maker. in vista, in the device manager, it lists the camera there and functioning as a camera. but WMM only seems to want to record video from a miniDV input (which works fine with my mini DV camera). is there a way to get the new version of windows movie maker, the one that comes with vista, to recognize and use the built-in camera to record video? if not, are there any other utilities i can use this camera with to record video? because if not, the built in camera becomes entirely worthless.

does the webcam on msn work on window vista? if i buy the sz 450 , sorry if im jumping on other subjects:Þ

after some searching, its WMM's fault, and i hate them now
heres what i found:
" Why am I unable to import video from my Web camera or analog video source?
Import Video does not support importing video from a Web camera or analog video source such as a VCR. To use video from your Web camera, you can use the software that comes with the camera to record the video to your computer."
F-that.
so moving on knowing this, are there any programs that can use the camera to record video? i dont need/care about streaming; just recording. -
Yes. The Sony Vaio Camera Capture Utility. It can take picture and video in to .wmv format I think.
Just use that mate.Attached Files:

what, specifically, would i need to download to use that utility? as you probably know, sony's website is horribly managed, and finding what you actually need is very difficult.
this is where i think i should be starting from: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-swu.pl?mdl=VGNSZ240P -
First things first - I'm from the UK, so things are different.
But I assume that you need the following at least:
:: Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC2 Driver
from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ240P&UpdateType=Original
and
::VAIO Camera Capture Utility
from http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/select/select.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&category=0&serie=VGN-SZ&m=2565
Hope this will solve your problem.Had to resolve back to my UK VAIO support site cause it's been so confusing using that US one.
