    Hi,

I have just hooked up my Sony Z using the HDMI lead to my Samsung 1080P 47" TV.

The Resolution on the Sony Z is set to HD 1080 and the picture appears, but i just cannot get the whole screen to fit. I have to change the TV aspect from 16:9 to make it fit.

Surely a 1080p TV and 1080 laptop both at 16:9 would work perfectly.

    any ideas?

If i set the HDMI Screen Aspect to "just scan", it's fine. Weird how it does not work with 16:9 setting.

On my Panasonic Plasma screen I also had to make an adjustment by selecting "HD Size 2" which basically does 1:1 pixel mapping (true 1920x1080).

    It's Full HD

Samsung LE46M87BDX - 46" Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview

    1080p HD Ready
    Super Clear Panel
    15000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
    3 HDMI
    Movie Plus
    Wide Colour Enhancer
    Game Mode
    iDTV
    HDMI CEC
    HDMI 1.3
    1920x1080 Resolution

I shouldn't have the change the Aspect Ratio from "16:9" to "Just Scan". Surely, just scan is going make the image fit by shrinking it.

TV signals are almost never the full resolution, and your TV will by default view a zoomed in area excluding black borders. There would be a lot more complaints if the TV displayed TV programs with a black box around them, even though it would be sharper than a zoomed image.

Unless your TV has an option for "Overscan on/off", "1:1 pixels" or "monitor", you probably won't be able to see a HDTV signal unzoomed.

Thank, that makes sense. I will just use the "Just Scan" options as everything fits and its very sharp.
