The adapter that came with this SZ6 (T7700, 4GB RAM, hybrid drive) is lost...

It was never used, and I can't recall what it looked like.

Can a Memory Stick Pro fit directly into that slot? Will it work effectively with Vista's "ReadyBoost"?

    Can that adapter be purchased?

    THANKS!!

do you think ReadyBoost will really help for your SZ? you already have 4gb or ram.

I think you will only see improvement when u don't have enough ram.

I had interesting results with another (Dell) laptop that had 2GB RAM and a 2GB SD card for ReadyBoost. With Vista "learning" (a week of heavy use, it was definitely faster with some specific apps and on some specific benchmarks.

My primary issue is what will fit into that slot...

i think the memory stick will fit in the adapter directly, but why not just use ur memory stick pro duo slot?

To answer your questions: Yes, the adapter can be bought, however be sure to check the transfer speeds of it before purchase as they often are somewhat slow. Also I'd suggest you buy a memory stick duo pro (the format Sony makes) as that will fit snuggly into the card slot. (Does not need to be Sony manufactured though) Also for best performance buy a speed class 6 mmspd. Hope this helped!

I'd like to hear opinions on this as well. My SZ came with 2GB of RAM, but the HDD is incredibly slow (5400RPM Hybrid) for random access. Has anyone with these drives in an SZ tried readyboost? Any noticeable performance increase?

OK - bought a Lexar 4GB Memory Stick Duo Pro Super Extend High Speed Dynamit Maximozo Gigarama, with the turbo option and hyperwrite, which came to about $30 including free oil changes for the first year.

Discovered that the term "adapter" was wrong - the big slot on the right side of this SZ6 is apparently a 34mm ExpressCard slot, and the Memory Stick fits neatly on the LEFT slide without help.

    Regarding ReadyBoost and speed...

My SZ6 has a 5400RPM hybrid drive, a carefully decrapified OS (thanks to Portable One), but only some of the Vista eye-candy. It is incredibly fast and stable. If yours is otherwise, you have work to do. It achieves 5-7 seconds to standby, 15 seconds to shut down, and a little over a minute to boot. All operations including app-opening and manipulation of big spreadsheets seem like lightning, but there are no games on it so I cannot report on that.

I have tried ReadyBoost on three nonSony Vista machines - not a statistically valid sampling, I know - and have yet to see a consistent improvement using objective benchmarks. I will, of course, try it on this one using that new Memory Stick.
