I have read somewhere that using an SZ battery is possible in the S series. The S series battery is rated at 11.1V/4800mAh whereas the SZ series standard battery is rated at 11.1V/5200mAh.

Will the higher mAh rating mean using the SZ battery in the S give it more battery run time?

On another note I believe the newer S models use the same 19.5v power brick as the SZ. Can anyone confirm.

I ask because I have an extra s5xx coming in the mail and would like to buy an additional battery. And I would like to buy the battery which gives me the longest run time.

    thx

According to the Spring 2006 VAIO Accessories Guide, the VGP-AC19V10 power brick will work in either the SZ series or the following models of the S series: VGN-S500, S400, S370, S380. A different power adapter, VGP-AC16V8, is used for these S series notebooks: VGN-S360/P, S200, S100.

I can't answer your question about whether the SZ battery will work in the S series, but the VAIO Accessories Guide notes that the model numbers for the standard and extended batteries for the SZ series are BPS2C and BPL2C, while those for the S series are BPS2 and BPL2.

Thanks, now I wont have to worry about which adapter belongs to which computer. I'm fairly certain that the batteries will work. But I'm not sure how well the S will do with a higher rated battery or if there are any consequences. I would be nice to have an extra battery that is interchangeable between the two.

If the only difference is the mah rating, it should work just fine, and even have a little better run time, given that it is a higher capacity rating.

same voltage with higher current rating meaning you can use it as temporary usage! I don't recommend you to subtitute your original battery for the long-run usage.

Is there a reason for this?

Oh ok, sorry I was kinda thinkin' something else. It will work and you'll have longer running time. However, if you use the old power cord with lower current, then it'll take longer time to charge the battery to full. What you can't do is to have higher current rating power supply than the battery current rating. It'll ruin the battery life and mess up the microchips inside your computer. I don't think you can do this though, as the lock and power cord jack should be different!
