Hello everyone. I'm thinking of buying a VAIO VPC-EF34FX/BI 17.3-Inch Laptop. I need to find out if it works with my 1920x1080 Viewsonic vx2439wm external monitor in 1920x1080 resolution. I had a hell of a time getting my current Acer running Vista Home to work with the Viewsonic in 1920x1080 res, and I'm hoping the VAIO's ati radeon hd 4250 graphics chip can handle it without much difficulty.

    Does anyone know.

    Thanks.

Sure! The 4250 is more than capable of 1080p resolution. Also, with at least fairly recent drivers it should auto-detect the monitor's native res and set it as that automatically.

It should work really well out of the box, most likely. However, there is a small chance you'll have to twiddle with settings to get that resolution working. Once it is chosen, you shouldn't have performance problems however.

Just a quick update - I went out and bought the Vaio. I tried getting the Viewsonic to work with the Vaio using the VGA cable, but couldn't get the resolution to 1920x1080. Then I tried it with a HDMI cable, and auto-detect worked like a charm. I am now getting 1920x1080 on the Viewsonic.

So the lesson is use an HDMI cable.
