The AV Mode Launcher utility is a part of the Sony Notebook Utilities package and it can be extracted out of the installation wrapper with Universal Extractor.

The DSD Direct Player can be downloaded here.

wow, that's really helpful, bogart. thanks alot.
i could find and install the VAIO AV Mode Launcher following your method.
but the DSD Direct Player you provide it's a update program, not the original version, so can't get it to install when i don't have the original version, i know that the new FZ has this software included, wonder where can i get that.
    Thanks again.

It seems that the AV mode launcher doesn't install correctly on the SZ. To solve this, extract the data1.cab with Universal Extractor and move all the extracted files to %programfiles%\Sony\VAIO AV Mode Launcher. Then copy the .xml file in the Asama folder to the VAIO AV Mode Launcher folder and run the AML_Setting.exe file. Once you're there, click the Reset button and all the programs will now appear in the list. To open the launcher simply run the AML.exe file. You can set one of your S buttons to launch that file if you prefer.

hi, bogart. AV mode launcher seems install correctly on my sz as simply run the setup file, but seems that, anytime i click the application that on the AV mode launcher bar, the application starts, and the AV mode launcher close itself.

how about the DSD Direct Player , did you find that anywhere else?
    thanks

I've not been able to find that other application, but I'll let you know if I do.

Try looking into your %programfiles%\Sony\VAIO AV Mode Launcher folder and see if the files are there. When I ran the installer it only placed the version.txt file there. The AV mode launcher works on mine after I did those steps so let me know if it works for you too.

Have you tried using the AML_Setting.exe to add an application to the list like Internet Explorer or Firefox and see if that launched correctly? The launcher should stay there and close itself only if the selected application is run or you click the X button.

yes, bogart. i adjd internet explorer, and runs correctly from the av mode launcher, but it's just weird that the av mode launcher will close when application runs, then what is the point of being a launcher, can't stay when application runs.

I think it was made that way because it's supposed to be launched with a press of a button and for it to be on all the time would defeat the purpose of it being launched. Try setting the S1 or S2 button to run AML.exe and it will make more sense.

Anyone know why my VAIO Launcher is in Japanese? Is there an English version? I got my files from Sony US eSupport.

Additionally, I have a setting in my VAIO Control Center called "Settings for the Behavior When Opening the LCD Screen Lid" I can't launch that setting? Am I missing a install?

    Thanks

Any help in this case would be much appreciated.
The setupfiles for the DSD Direct Player can be found (if installed) in this directory:

    C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{009E7FB7-1775-4D89-8956-F5C9A1C019FC}\

Creating a Zip or RAR of this dir would help us here !!!

That's getting warmer, we now know where it is located on People's Vaios (with the program installed)!

Please, if someone has this free but rare program, do share.

It's not getting warmer, it's hot now.

Extracted from an AR21x recovery DVD, I found DSD Direct Player v1.0.00.13250 in folder SP-014834-00 (or file, however you want to see-extract the content of the recovery DVDs). Hope it's running on int'l versions, because I'm using a German system.

Anyone interested, please send a PM.

PS Further info, if of interest:

SP-014828-00 (DSD Playback Plugin v1.1.01.13230) German languange
SP-014833-00 (DSD Direct v2.0.01.13240) German language

Anyway, please note that you need at least a T7200 CPU for the Direct Player. It won't install otherwise and shows an error message.

Please also note that the DSD Direct Player doesn't accept DSD-DVDs, it only converts Audio CDs and . WAV files (.WAV - PCM) on-the-fly to DSD output.

For playing the DSD-DVDs (and .DSF + .DDP=playlists files) within the Media Player you need to have the DSD Playback Plugin installed.
If you don't have a DSD-compatible soundcard like some VAIOs, the sound might be converted back to PCM while playing DSD-DVDs.

My problem is still there: I haven't found a SigmaTel driver for >> XP << that would be accepted as working for HiDef DSD by both the DSD Playback plugin for WinMediaPlayer and the DSD Direct player prog.
My current driver version is 5.10.5515.0.

I don't know about DSD Discs, but have you tried DSD files?

You can download some here. Be sure to download the correct ones, the ones that say "Stereo DFF DSD 64 2.8224Mbit/s".

    Meanwhile,
I have tested a couple of DSD files, DSD Discs and DSD applications and one question remains. Somebody here with similar experiences and prob. an answer?

I have installed the DSD Direct v2.0.01 application on a couple of PCs to create DSD files. Only on one non-Sony PC the application allows -additionally- the creation of DSD discs, on all other PCs (apart from my Sony VAIO) this option is greyed out.

The main differences of this sole PC where the option is available are a) this is an AMD X2 CPU (the others are also AMD and Intel CPUs up to an quadcore), b) it has an NEC PATA DVD drive, where the others are Pioneer (PATA), Plextor (SATA) and LiteOn (SATA) c) the soundcard is different on this, it has an Audiy 2 ZS, where the others are Audigy 2 ZS notebook or X-Fi cards.

Might be too difficult to ask Sony Support for an answer on it?

    Another problem.
Sonic Mastering Studio 2.3 (for DSD file "mastering") can't be installed on non-Sony PCs. Any workaround for this? Or is the installed asking for something prob. hidden inside's Sony's BIOS?

Anyway, if sb needs some recent Sony Sonic Mastering Studio updates/installers, have a look here: http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/product/vgn-fe48g?site=hp_en_AP_i

When these .exe file might say they can be installed on Vista machines ONLY, extract the files/folders from that .exe file (it's in self-running archive), and start the setup.exe manually from the appr. sub-folder (not the root folder!). This way you can skip to OS-dependent system check and the prog. installs even on XP machines.
