The only one in my opinion that doesn't represent a good value is the one with the RGB led backlighting and the 2.8 processor. They want a sizeable markup for just those two things really, on sonystyle.uk, 1000.

Sony lists the two models below the one with led backlighting as having double lamp 1920x1080, but the base model does not have single lamp and is not 1920x1080.

    Hello Ian,
it is not only the RGB LED screen and the CPU.
The big difference in price is due to the two SSD's (Solid State Disk) really!

I agree with you that it is not a good value yet because of the SSD's that skyrocket the price. If only Sony could offer the second best configuration (AW11Z/B) but with the LED display, it would be perfect for me.

For the moment i will settle for the AW11Z/B and hope that the non-LED dual lamp screen is bright with good contrast.

I have to give away my old notebook soon so let's hope that this model ships in Europe before 10-15 of october.Do you have any information about shipping date?

Sony says on their website that they will begin to ship early October.

Now that you have said that, I wonder how long it be before they will introduce another model with led backlighting and 2.8 Ghz, but without the SSDs.

On the Sony Style UK site it lists the Total available graphics memory of Approx. 1770MB* with dedicated GDDR3 Video Memory of 512MB. But on the Sony Style CA site it lists the Total Available Graphics Memory of 2280MB (max.). Persumably one of these figures is wrong, as the graphics card are both listed as the Nivida 9600M GT.

Are Nivida graphics cards better than those of ATI that are found in the FW series, i know that the 9600M GT out ranks the ATI HD 3650, even in 512 MB, but generally speaking?

The 9600GT with DDR2 is a bit faster than the ATI 3650 by a small margin.
The most important aspect is the memory used.Sony offer the 9600GT with 512MB DDR3 that adds considerable performance.
    Let's see some 3DMark06 numbers:

    ATI 3650: 3500 marks
    NVIDIA 9600GT: 4800 marks

I am not sure about real life performance but with such a big difference on the 3DMark benchmark, the 9600GT should be much better. :)

nice laptop but not too portable, waiting myself if sony canada adds the 3650 to the FW since at 18 inches, the AW is too large.

Best Buy has AW-125 in stores here in Seattle for $1849. paying $50 more for a blue-ray burner is wroth it IMHO.
I picked up one last friday and still can't get enough of it.
