    Hi all,

I received my Vista disks about a month ago, and given my incredibly positive experience with it on my desktop, I couldn't wait to get it on my VAIO. Unfortunately my experience on the VAIO has been less than ideal.

Install went OK. I did a format and fresh install off the bootable Vista Business disc I received, then followed the instructions to install everything off the supplement disc 2. Everything seemed well.

Except for power management, one of the most important things on a laptop. I have my laptop set to Sleep when I close the lid. This worked beautifully on XP. When I opened the lid and hit a key, everything sprang to life and worked.

Not so on Vista. I had to manually re-establish the wireless connection, even though I had checked the "Always reconnect" box. And that was after turning on SSID broadcast; with it off, I had to re-locate the network and re-enter my WPA key every time!

It would also crash a lot more; I would often open the lid to see that Windows had restarted itself. One oddity is when I opened the lid, the WLAN light was on. I pressed a key to resume, and the light would go off, then come back on. This probably explains the wireless drop.

I can't see this as a Vista problem though. I use Vista's power management on my desktop, and it works a treat there. I never turn it off; I just sleep it and when I come to use it again, I hit a key and everything works. Something must be up with Vista's interaction with the VAIO ACPI BIOS, or there's a dodgy driver.

In any case, I'm rolling back to XP right now so I can regain my sanity. I'm going to wait and try again when Vista SP1 comes out, and Sony have released new drivers.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Well, I don't have a Sony but my Vista install has some major WiFi, USB, and printing issues as well. Most of my drivers were included with Vista, so I cannot exactly blame HP for these problems. It's MS's fault...and I'm also working to rollback during the weekend when I have time to re-install everything.
