I have the VAIO CR and theres a problem with the speakers. Whenever I turn the notebook back on from sleep or hibernate mode, the speakers don't work. I've checked all the sound settings and everything and all seems fine; no indicators of any problems whatsoever, just that nothing comes out of the speakers. Only thing I can do about it is to reboot. Is anyone else having the same problem? Pls provide me with a better solution than rebooting everytime this happens. I'd rather not take it back to the computer store unless I really really have to because they'd probably keep it for a week or two. Pls help......

I have the same problem (VAIO CR as well), and have no idea how to solve it without rebooting. I'd also like to know how to fix this problem...

Try checking the processes running before and after your computer sleeps. Find the one that is added or removed.

An easier way to bring back the sound card to work without rebooting is disabling and enabling the "High Definition Audio" in Device Manager.
By the way, I've never seen this problem since I downgraded to XP.

PS: Try to close the MediaPlayer or any other soundcard-engaging application before system sleep or hibernation.

yea the disabling and enabling thing works however since i'm not computer savvy it took me a while to find out where the realtek device to enable it went...this didn't happen til recently so it took about 10 months before the speakers went crazy

i also have a similar problem. after sleeping the sound would often stop working but i just put it back to sleep and then it was fine this didnt really bother me. But now after installing the windows service pack the sound will cut off for no reason, unless its in constant use. if i am playing music its fine but as soon as i pause it for about 1min, the sound will not work anymore until i put the notebook to sleep and turn it back on again. i tried to uninstall the service pack but it keeps giving me and error. i'm so frustrated and i really dont want to have to give it back to the shop, i really cant live without it at the moment.
