Not sure when or how it happened, but I was trying to load up some software via the ROM on my GF's Sony VAIO VGN-CR190 and noticed there was no drive listed in My Computer at all. I checked device manager and it lists the Pioneer DVR-K17 with an issue, saying the driver for the device is either missing or corrupted.
I checked the pioneer site and it doesn't have anything on the issue. I figured I could just try to reinstall the driver, but I can't seem to find it anywhere either. Is there a way to fix this problem myself, or am I going to have to send it off to Sony? We're still under warranty since it's less than a month old.

Your DVD RW drive is not showing up in the Explorer window? It might be the case which I had and so did someone else. Its an issue in deleting the Upper Filters and Lower Filters in the Registry. I called Sony Support for the issue that I could not see my DVD RW drive in the Explorer, and it did not recognize a disc when inserted.
Sunday morning and Sony Support guided me to those same steps as pointed out by a fellow board member, in about twenty minutes. Give them a call. -

I posed a similar if not exact same problem. Someone replies with the location in the Registry where you delete the Upper Filters and Lower Filters.
I even provide a screenshot where I am at the exact screen...Its unusual why the disc drive stopped reading, but at least it got solved by deleting those two things. Dont forget to restart after doing so. -
