    Hello everyone,

I am quite new to these forums. I just bought a new VAIO VPCEB490X CTO from the Sony website.

These are the specs for the laptop:

Core i5 480M processor (2.66GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
    Win 7 Professional 64-Bit
    4 GB Ram
    15.5" Full HD Display (1920x1080)
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 GPU

The thing is,, I have not had a high end computer, for a while, my current laptop has Intel integrated graphics, so I am not really sure what to expect from the ATI Radeon graphics card and the HD Display (1920x1080).

Is it any good? I play games but mostly on my PS3 not on my computer but I researched online and I am very glad that this will able to play Crysis and other games.

Is 4 GB ram enough? I am mainly asking not a review but any one of your's experience of this card.

Thank you everyone for your time and help

notebookcheck.net will help you see clearly each notebook graphic card how support each game and how much frame can it produces.

and upgrade to 8gb ram is better for game.

Yeah I did check the reviews online, and I did see that it supports games with DirectX 10.0 almost perfect but 11.0 not so much. but I was wondering if the HD Display affects the gameplay in anyway other than the improved resolution,

Upgrading the ram to 8GB would have upgraded the price by $200 so I didnt bother, cuz I got the above configuration for $699, and didnt wanna spend more on it.

if you're going to be gaming 4GB is more than enough. You DON'T need more than that... unless you're going to be running VM's or doing crazy memory hogging applications (and games are NOT included in this category). In any case, if you're just going to be gaming on your laptop, to get more fps's lower the res you play at to 1600x900 or lower if need be. Or just turn down some settings. 8 GB of ddr3 is about $60 on slickdeals if you wait (there was just a set in the past week for $55).

The 5650 1Gb handles all games quite well (of course only at lower resolutions and NOT 1920x1080) So yes you can play any game you want to, but be sure to dial down the resolution for smooth gameplay. And the best thing is, it overclocks quite well and with a good overclock can reach the performance levels of 5730. To overclock the card download the AMD GPU clock tool. Optimal overclock values would be :
    Engine - around 625
    Memory- 900

You can go higher but it depends on your system.

Yes thank you everyone who were able to reply to my post. I am going to be gaming, but I am also an engineering student so gaming will not be that much. I do need to run softwares like Matlab, Pro E and Solidworks, so I also wanted a laptop which can handle graphics especially for Solidworks, but after everyones post, I can see that it will be fine.

    Thanks again
