    Found a decent deal for this laptop here in the UK: Intel Core i7 740QM 2.93GHz / 8GB RAM / 500GB / Blu-ray / Black

This is the first time I'm spending £1000+ for a laptop and I'm worried the fact that it doesn't have USB3.0, Sandy Bridge, and with 3D laptops coming soon that it will be outdated in a year? I was patiently waiting for sandy bridge to come out and that would've ended my decision but now it's been recalled I can't really wait until April :/

    Thanks for any advice

Everything in computing is outdated shortly after you buy it and thats just the way the industry works. If you wait for Sandy Bridge, then theres Ivy Bridge not long after that. If you keep waiting for the next big thing you could be waiting forever and get nothing done.

The best advice is to buy only what you need right now for the best price (it will usually be midrange parts as the high end stuff commands premiums). Forget about future proofing because you can't do it.

Check the F series owner's lounge thread for comments and opinions re: F12. Also check out notebookcheck.net's review of the F12. As a former owner of an F12 I can confirm that their review is pretty much on the money (both the good and the bad).

If you can deal with the bad, then theres alot to like in this notebook (especially the UK/EU 1080p display which is very nice). Other than that, just make sure you can live with a 3.5 kg, 16.4"er with low battery life.
