Anyone else have the same experience? Every time I pick it up it's "creak creak creak." Did I get a dud?

That's a problem? I was unaware that notebooks should be "creak" free... especially big ones.

Yeah, my ibooks, powerbooks, macbook pro and previous vaios didn't. Neither did my inspiron 1525 or m1530.

It's just plastic making the noise I think. Probably just because its big and kinda heavy too...so when big things flex they make noise. Just ask the muscles on my arms, they make noise when they flex

It's one thing if a part is squeeking so bad that it's probably loose... but a sort of general creakiness isn't really an issue. I'm not sure about your Apple's... but my ibook, and my dad's macbook both have a bit of creakiness in them. Certainly not significantly different than my FW.

I actually believe there is also a slight "creakiness" in my SZ, yet none in my 3 years old Medion (15" 4:3) and some "creakiness" in my external keyboard (for the Medion).
Basically your creaking will occur when two pieces grind against each other, and your FW posibly hasn't got a "chassis" made from one piece (with only the slots), as has my FW.
On my SZ I believe it the two bits on the side which make a noise.
Also, every material will move/deform when you shift the mass distribution. So unless its a really loud noise, I'd say its normal, especially on a design notebook which might have a few extra pieces to make it look nicer.
VAIO FW is creaking on me
