Anyone else have the same experience? Every time I pick it up it's "creak creak creak." Did I get a dud?

That's a problem? I was unaware that notebooks should be "creak" free... especially big ones.

It's just plastic making the noise I think. Probably just because its big and kinda heavy too...so when big things flex they make noise. Just ask the muscles on my arms, they make noise when they flex :)

It's one thing if a part is squeeking so bad that it's probably loose... but a sort of general creakiness isn't really an issue. I'm not sure about your Apple's... but my ibook, and my dad's macbook both have a bit of creakiness in them. Certainly not significantly different than my FW.

I actually believe there is also a slight "creakiness" in my SZ, yet none in my 3 years old Medion (15" 4:3) and some "creakiness" in my external keyboard (for the Medion).

Basically your creaking will occur when two pieces grind against each other, and your FW posibly hasn't got a "chassis" made from one piece (with only the slots), as has my FW.
On my SZ I believe it the two bits on the side which make a noise.
Also, every material will move/deform when you shift the mass distribution. So unless its a really loud noise, I'd say its normal, especially on a design notebook which might have a few extra pieces to make it look nicer.
