Hello!
I would like to listen 24bit music from my Vaio to the iBasso D10 portable amp which I'm going to purchase. This has a USB connection which only supports audio up to 16bit 44.1khz, but through the digital inputs (optical or coaxial) it supports 24bit input.
The Vaio FW11S only has an analogue headphone jack, and a HDMI output. Is it possible to get 24bit digital audio from my HDMI output to the digital inputs on the iBasso?
Is there a HDMI > optical or HDMI > coaxial converter/cable/plug/etc. available, and what would be a very good quality one?
Thanks very much!![]()
-edit- how about this? http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI 1x1 Audio Converter.html
Will this support playback of 24bit FLAC files through the optical out?

*bump* anyone?

Hi
looks like your ibasso desnt have hdmi input .. that pity
but it got spdif so link it with SPDIF
Of course it is .. yu can set hdmi to 24 bit
you can set it even to 96 and 120 depend if your receiver will support it
sony STR-DH800 is great for it
and converters ? hdmi to digital coaxial .. : yes

Thanks for your reply!
I don't have SPDIF out on my laptop, only HDMI out.
That link that you posted is of a coaxial > HDMI converter (with HDMI output), I need something that is the exact opposite of that !
-
but my friend u HAVE SPDIF on your laptop
just look properly
I'll tell ya .. : its there where u plugging jack for headphones or ext speakers
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Exactly. There is usually an optical out through the 3.5mm headphone jack. -
So you dont have combined ? just HP/spkr out ?
-
Well, I only have a headphone out and microphone in. No digital input whatsoever I think. Or is the headphone out a digital out too? How can I test this?
Control panel > Sounds > Realtek High Definition Audio gives me this:
But still, even if this was an optical out, wouldn't this use the crappy onboard soundcard of the Vaio? Thus decreasing the quality again? -
looks like u have old vaio ..
i have spdif combined on my aw ..
dont understan why they didnt inplemented it there its old technology ..
try install this: http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_VistaWin_7_d5513.html
then check if is same as pic below ..Attached Files:

I installed the update, but it didn't add the optical digital out, sadly enough
I bought this Vaio in October 2008, so yeah, it's an older one. Not thát old though, but old enough to not have optical out.
Thanks for the driver update tho
so the question still remains:
I'm planning on buying a new LCD TV (Sony Bravia) in a while. The new models (i.e. HX700) have digital optical out. Would it be possible to link my Vaio to the TV with HDMI, and playback 24bit FLAC files through the TV > optical out > iBasso? Would there be any quality loss? There shouldn't be, right, cause it's all digital? -

If you have external components that will process high-quality audio over HDMI, then HDMI most certainly will support it (protocol wise). You can do full-on bitstream of DTSHD-MA or Dolby TrueHD over HDMI also, but you muct have the right equipment to decode it. -
@XGX2007
definetly not
his laptop doesnt support dolby true hd and dts hd over hdmi .. at all !
it is not supported on mine vaio his totally wont support that !
he can take just 2 channel stereo from hdmi and standard dolby digital or dts
not any HD sounds ... -
I think you need som HDMI to SPDIF converter look on google or ask on AVS forum website ..
Its is not old for SPDIF sony is just little cheeky ,..
they made it on purpose .. for money
I had fujitsu siemens (amilo Xi 1554) since 2007 and there is SPDIF combined
even subwoofer
If you want to buy sony TV that is Best option great
BUT I really dont know how it is with SPDIF(optical digital) there .
I know is there cos on my bravia it is but JUST only stereo . again cheeky buggers SONY !!!
But i think if you buy latest model as you said there will be 5.1 sound from
optical digital ...
its good to buy AV receiver tho.. sony
I have but old one was plannning buy str-dh800 but i canceled that
I have logitech 5.1 and there is SPDIF so when I am watching TV channels I have it connected from TV SPDIF when watchin bluray I have second Optical cable from PS3 .. so just swapping two toslinks

Yes. If he has an HDMI port, and something like powerdvd or another software that supports output of those, then yes it will. The graphics card is the one that does the audio processing in the case of HDMI, not the ALC/Realtek HD Audio. -
While you guys talk about audio output from HDMI. I have HD projector so I am thinking of buying HDMI switch with audio output (coax output). Does anybody have experience with this. Will it work with HDMI on new F or new Z. Basically I want to use HDMI switch to send audio output from new Z to my 5.1 audio system.

SPDIF output from Sony Bravia might have some limitations. I have my digital cable box hooked to a Bravia W5100 through HDMI and have the Toslink SPDIF output from the Bravia connected to my receiver, but the Bravia will only output stereo PCM through the Toslink port, not even Dolby Digital on programs that have it. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the Bravia's SPDIF output or a limitation of my cable box' HDMI output though.
I've also been looking for products that will split digital audio from HDMI output, and a good one that I found is http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5557&seq=1&format=2 It supports all the formats necessary, including uncompressed LPCM, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA, so it should be able to do what you need, and the price isn't bad. Unfortunately it won't be in stock for a while.
EDIT: Just noticed you actually don't care about multichannel output, but rather stereo LPCM output at 24bits. Unfortunately I think that's even more unclear. SPDIF is usually used to transmit 16/20bit LPCM audio, while 24bit is possible not all equipment supports it. You said your amp supports 24bit over SPDIF, so the question is will the Bravia TVs be able to output 24bit LPCM over SPDIF or will that converter box support it, which I think is very hard to answer unless someone gives it a try. -
I was checking this one.
They are even shipping it worldwide but it's pricey. Almost 4 times more then one you found.
Edit: On the closer look it's seems like same model you found
-
yeah true its not realtek it's NVIDIA ..
but I don't think that nVIDIA HDMI will support HD .. so old .. 2008
I really don't know I haven't tried cos my AV receiver is old .. only 5.1 and that works .. dts and DD pas through .. yeah .. dunno if HD audio .. -
that would be no problem and if you have newer vaio you should be able to
send DTS-HD and TrueHD ... (HDMI)
Just check properly all info about HDMI in projector -
Multichannel is ANALOG system with chinch plugs ..
from HDMI yu will send 2 CHannel always and receiver it converts to 5.1
but over HDMI you now sending data BITRATE so av receiver will decompress data to normal hearing audio if it supports
so if power dvd will be able to send pass through audio data tracks from blu-ray to receiver you might be lucky .. ( if we talking about laptops)
yeah SPDIF is 24 BIT MAX ..
over HDMI you can send 96 KHz or 192
AV receiver MUST support that .. -
Projector is Epson TW3500 with two HDMI 1.3a ports but 1.3a should be backward compatible. Is there anything else I need to know about HDMI in projector?
-
eeem I think you said to me enough 1.3 is top
look here :

Thanks for the table. Seems like I'm safe
