I've seen the tutorials for the semi clean Vista installs, and have decided that I'm too stupid.

I just need someone to do me a solid and tell me which of these to uninstall.

Maybe, just highlight the following list and bold what needs to go.

    Adobe Flash Player ActiveX
    Adobe Reader 8.1.0
    Alps pointing device for VAIO
    click to disc
    click to disc editor
HDAUDIO softV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
    Instant Mode
    microsoft office powerpoint viewer 2007
    microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable
    MXSML 4.0 SP2
    Roxio Easy Media Creator Home
    setting utility series
    sony video shared library
    supportsoft assisted service
    vaio camera capture utility
    vaio content folder setting
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager
    vaio content metadata manager setting
vaio content metadata SML interface library
    VAIO control center
    vaio DVD menu data basic
    Vaio entertainment platform
    Vaio event service
    vaio help and support
    vaio launcher
    vaio media 6.0
    vaio media AC3 decoder 1.0
    vaio media content collection 6.0
    vaio media registration tool 6.0
    vaio original function setting
    vaio pc wireless lan wizard
    vaio power management
    vaio productivity center
    vaio service utility
    vaio update 3
    vaio wallpaper contents
    windvd for vaio
    wireless switch setting utility

if anyone could help me out, i'd be so glad.. :) :) :)

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX-keep, you'll want this for the internet
Adobe Reader 8.1.0-keep, required to read PDFs, extremely likely you'll need this
Alps pointing device for VAIO-keep, this is a driver for the touchpad
click to disc- I've never actually used this, but it could be potentially useful, it does no damage existing
click to disc editor- I've never actually used this, but it could be potentially useful, it does no damage existing
HDAUDIO softV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP-keep, modem or sound drivers, either may you want them.
Instant Mode-keep, can't remember what these run, i think its the shortcut keys, you'll want this
microsoft office powerpoint viewer 2007, if you have microsoft office you can get rid of this, otherwise you'll need something like this to open powerpoint presentations
microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable-keep, i think you need it for some programmes
MXSML 4.0 SP2-keep, i think you need it for some programmes
Roxio Easy Media Creator Home-I have never actually used this, but it can potentially be useful, keep it unless your desperate for disk space
    setting utility series
sony video shared library- don't have a clue what it does
supportsoft assisted service- don't have a clue what it does
vaio camera capture utility- helpful for making web cam videos for your gf
vaio content folder setting- don't have a clue what it does
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager- don't have a clue what it does
vaio content metadata manager setting- don't have a clue what it does
vaio content metadata SML interface library- don't have a clue what it does
    VAIO control center- KEEP THIS
vaio DVD menu data basic- don't have a clue what it does
Vaio entertainment platform- don't have a clue what it does, but keep it
Vaio event service- don't have a clue what it does, but keep it
vaio help and support- certainly keep this
    vaio launcher- keep this
vaio media 6.0- don't have a clue what it does, but keep it
vaio media AC3 decoder 1.0- don't have a clue what it does, but keep it
vaio media content collection 6.0- don't have a clue what it does, but keep it
vaio media registration tool 6.0-keep it
    vaio original function setting-keep
    vaio pc wireless lan wizard-keep
    vaio power management-keep
    vaio productivity center-keep
    vaio service utility-keep
    vaio update 3-keep
vaio wallpaper contents-Remove unless you like the wallpapers sony provided you with. I actually like some of them.
windvd for vaio-keep, allows you to watch DVDs
wireless switch setting utility-keep, lets you set up your wifi

So yeah there is very little bloat ware actually on your machine. Yes a lot of these do operate processors when your computer starts, but they make little real difference. Although sony does give you a lot of crap they do give helpful stuff. For example asia/pacific vaios come with adobe photoshop elements and premier elements which is worth around US$100 from memory. The best thing you can probably do for performance is if you still have norton going look to acquire a free alternative as recommend on this site or go get NOD32 or similar, that'll make a huge difference.

NOTE: Wait for a few more opinions to come through before you do anything.

Well then the camera tool is more useful then isn't it.

Just be careful what Sony software you delete, I deleted something one time and I suddenly found I couldn't connect my laptop all to easily to a mates TV.

To add a little to what is already above:

click to disc - cool tool for importing picts and videos
click to disc editor - needed for above
Instant Mode - allows you to play music or watch a movie without booting Vista - Just press the "AV Mode" when your PC is off
Roxio Easy Media Creator Home - keep if you ever want to burn a DVD or a CD outside of your media player of choice
vaio camera capture utility - for the webcam on the FZ
    vaio content folder setting
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager
    vaio content metadata manager setting
vaio content metadata SML interface library
    - As far as I can tell, this has to do with the Vaio Entertainment offerings - metadata is basically information used to make search easier - I nuked them all.
Vaio entertainment platform - I nuked it
vaio launcher - this is what pops up on the top of the screen when you are in Vista and press the "AV Mode" button - I nuked it because it is redundant, IMO.
    vaio media 6.0
    vaio media AC3 decoder 1.0
    vaio media content collection 6.0
    vaio media registration tool 6.0
    - I nuked all of this - I don't like Sony Media "stuff"
vaio pc wireless lan wizard - nuke it - let Vista handle wireless.
vaio power management - nuked it - Vista handles it
vaio productivity center - nuked it, saw no ill effects
    vaio service utility - KEEP
vaio wallpaper contents - I nuked because I did not like them!
windvd for vaio - kept it, but Windows handles this too - and various other free apps
wireless switch setting utility - nuked it

not in my FZ. Don't really know what the DSD is/does, but the Location Player is for the Sony version of a Sling Player and I think SonicStage is a trial only and you have to buy it.

    Sonic Stage? Trial?

No, Sonic Stage ist effectively free, however it has little value (except for a small music library) unless you actually use a sony MP3-Player, and even then, I think they are abandoning it...
    (Sadly...)

The Sony Video Shared Library is used in conjunction with playing DVD's in Windows Media Player. I Believe! If you use another player for DVD's, probably not a problem. I've found that some of the Sony Vaio stuff has subtle ties to other laptop functions. You can google them independently and see if anyone else has verified the full purpose of each progarm.

Do not get rid of the Sony Event Platform per other user recommendations.

DSD is some kind of sound format imo, and the DSD player makes use of it to somehow enhance audio cd playback quality, as far as I understand it.

sonic stage is an equalizer with effects, I wouldnt call that useless.
