Hello people, my question is simple... at least I hope it is. I am almost certainly going to buy the VAIO VGN-FZ190N4 but before I do I would like to know if it is possible to turn off the Wifi antenna without turning off the Bluetooth antenna and vice versa, as I am currently deciding on what type of mouse to buy.

Which would you recommend for saving the most power/conveniece? I will only be using the mouse for things like mild gaming and video editing as those task would be unreasonable with a touchpad.

    1. A bluetooth mouse

    or

    2. A Mini retractable cord USB mouse (can't seem to find any full size mice with a retractable cord)

    Thanks for all suggestions!

Since your laptop has bluetooth, using a bluetooth mouse will be more convenient because it avoids cable clutter, plus you can free up the USB port for use with some other device.

You can turnoff each of the connections independently using wireless manager.

Myself, I use a bluetooth microsoft 8000 presenter mouse. I prefer bluetooth as you don't need to attach a wireless usb adapter to your notebook (always afraid of bumping it and snapping it off). I use my mouse for gaming, work, and photoediting. Only problem that I ran into so far is that the built in bluetooth adapter doesn't allow me to use my middle scroll button on mouse to either magnify or switch windows (areo) compared to if I use the usb bluetooth adapter that came with the mouse.

I'm not sure of the difference in power consumption between these options:
    1. bluetooth - mouse has own power via battery but relies on notebook bluetooth connector
    2. wireless usb - again mouse has own power but notebook needs to power usb wireless adapter
3.wired usb mouse - notebook has to power the mouse.

I've heard some people complaining about slow speeds with bluetooth mice in general. That could be frustrating in gaming. Personally, I plan on getting a VX Revolution. But then, the USB stub doesn't bother me.

I have no problems with gaming on my bluetooth mouse, but I'm not a hardcore gamer.

Another problem that I noticed is that after exiting from sleep mode, the bluetooth connection is lost between the mouse and the notebook. I think it is because it runs on the same frequency (2.4ghz) as my wireless network connection...it is a pain that everything runs at this frequency..phones, wireless, bluetooth...need new wireless router...

Thanks for your comments everyone. I think I will just go with a Retractable cord mouse as they are cheaper (I do have to afford college ;) ) and are still portable while not introducing a bunch of clutter.

I use the Sony bluetooth mouse with my FE and it works perfectly, the middle scroll wheel and everything.

I think it is a compatibility issue with the 8000 presenter and the BT controller. The scroll wheel works but the scroll wheel button does not perform the programmed task. In some of the other forums, people have also noticed same problem with this mouse with sony notebooks including the sz series.
