Looks good, but does it still have IPS screen? I can't see that anywhere.

Seen it already. Looks quite good, but I wouldn't bet on IPS screen for this price. What dGPU have they installed there? Japanese looks quite weird to me
-
Ok this seems to be the thing I found on the FCC last month
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/715991-new-vaio-f-series-fcc.html
14 and 15 inch
mystery solved
-
Why not, the current is IPS too and quite cheap, it seems non-touch is available, so maybe that would be a matte IPS screen, specs here:

Looks like pseudo-ultrabook to me. Low Voltage CPU installed, probably only Intel HD4000 available. Seems poor to me, even the design, no additional buttons
Should be a good rival to HP Sleekbook or new ASUS K56 (this one comes with GF740, renamed GF650).
The main disadvantage is battery, just like in most of Sony laptops. -
Styling cue from 2004 VGN-S and 2008 VGN-Z. Shrink this to 13", throw a full-voltage quad core CPU and dedicate GPU in the mix and we will have a triumphant return of Z series.
-
The review mentions using GeForce 730M and 735M, but not 740M as I have found in other article.
IMO, great step made by Sony, finally poor 720p will disappear. 1600x900 should be enough for less demanding users.
P.S: I can see some similiarties to VAIO S series, touchpad has no buttons. -
No ultrabook? I can't remember the last time I used the Blu-ray drive on my laptop. Then again, I can't remember the last time I got excited about a VAIO laptop either. Seems like they are producing on autopilot. Not much innovation going on anymore..
-
I like some aspects of the design but not all. These are just 'mainstream' notebooks though so I would expect any S or Z update to be a lot sharper.
-
maybe in the US and europe but not japan it seems since 1366x768 is not dead yet for the vaio line, it seems a budget version of the 15 fit is due in japan
Pentium 2117U (1.8GHz)
15.5-inch wide (1,366 × 768 dots)
105,000 yen (50,000 yen cheaper than fit14)

I believe only the 15inch version has aluminum where as the 14inch model is plastic. btw
wonder if sony will be upgrading the S line with just new CPUs and screens or a full makeover -
The Vaio Fit 15E variant does use GeForce 740M, written on the jap website if you scroll down

I'm waiting to see if they fixed the horrendous Vaio S speakers. The reviewers still seem to be complaining about speakers, but I've yet to see a comparison with the S.
-
Strange that it hasn't been announced for Europe yet...
-
With these due to land in a few weeks, is there a realistic chance of the current E/T series going cheap end of May/early June?
-
With both the F2 and the Duo 11, I've found the speakers to be terrible out of the box but much better once some software on the machine was activated (Dolby on the F2, X-Loud on the Duo 11). I wonder if reviewers who complain about the speakers have tried activating any sound options from the Vaio Control Center.
-
Even enabling Dolby Home Theater V4 won't change the thing. The speakers are quiet and play like mono. Kinda disappointing for this class laptop.
-
Regarding sound, it is interesting that in the engadget review they say that there is a subwoofer but only in the Fit 15E and not in the slimmer Fit 15.
-
And what about speakers power? 2x5 or 2x10W?
-
So, do we know? Does the VAIO Fit 15 have IPS screen or not? I see that I can choose touch or non-touch fuld HD.
-
Good question, I checked various websites, nothing regarding IPS and I guess assume it is a TN panel, best option is to go and see it in person. Hmm I thought the fit had CTO options, guess not.
-
In Denmark we do have CTO options for the FIT models, no mention of IPS, why degrade the screen if the pricing is about the same?
-
I wish my Vaio S came with a brushed metal lid.
-
It's deal breaker for me that the screen has been downgraded, the price is great.
-
Really? A notebook with a poor battery life and an unnecessary ULV CPU is IMHO the worst combination and the ULV CPU doesn't make sense. This notebook is OK for someone who wants a facebook machine.
-
Not everyone needs a power machine, but someone (like me) need a really good screen and low noise
-
The "Fit" is still pretty expensive for what it offers; if you want to be a beta tester then go for it otherwise you should wait. New machines often have problems (especially sony's) that they're found after a bit of usage. The B series had faulty fans, the S series had problems with the screen, fan, audio (which they haven't fixed).
-
Oh no, I'm not going for it, the missing IPS screen is a deal breaker.
At least in my country it's very cheap from what you get, I can configure it with 12GB ram and 256GB disc and price is still lower than the cheapest MacBook Air, that's pretty good
-
The "Fit" is in no way comparable to the macbook air, the pro is.
-
I know, it was just a comparison of price. The VAIO Pro 13 is a about the same price as the MacBook Air 13.
-
If these are new models, why are they not available with Haswell processors?
The 15" model is near-perfect for me. But I hate that I can't get a 740M or subwoofer in the "premium" edition, and I want the newest CPUs which are only avaiable in the Pro and Duo series so far it seems. I really don't know why you would release 3 new series to coincide with the release of the new processors, but only 2 of the series carry them.
