I have a VGN-NW270F laptop and an older Samsung tv that supports DVI 480i/p and 1080i only. (The samsung I beleive does not support HDCP.)
I have a HDMI cable with a HDMI to DVI-D adapter.. I've used this cable/adapter succesfully with another device.
Anyway, no matter what I do, my laptop will not detect that I plugged the cable in.
I was to understand that this should work as long as I don't try to play anything with uses HDCP..
How do I force my latop to enable to the HDMI port? When I press fn + f7, it enables the VGA port, not the HDMI port.

Hi John,
I believe Fn+F7 should work, at least it works on my Z when connected to my 24" Eizo screen, through the HDMI to DVI cable. Hope this helps. -
Been trying that..
When I go the VAIO Control Center for the display options.. The HDMI resolution settings are greyed out.
It's as if the laptop doesn't see that I have it plugged in. -
DELETED.
Sorry, thought this was yet anther Z thread. My mistake -
Heh, I had been googling that too..
The HDMI port works fine with my HDMI capable TV. Just can't get it to work with this TV..
I wish there was a way to just manually tell the PC to enable the port with the settings I tell it. It seems to be looking for some handshake the HDMI only provides.. -
Ohh, I also just tested the DVI port with my DirectTV HDMI out and got a picture.
So it is specific this my VAIO HDMI output.
