I have received my new Laptop, it is all very nice, nice screen etc, except the touchpad is the worst I have ever seen. It seems there is a button underneath it and you can press it and it clicks. But it also seems to be so loose that it rattles under your finger making it almost impossible to click by touch alone or to "hold button down" by the common double-tap or to have any accuracy whatsoever.
I have not seen another VAIO and cannot tell if the touchpad is meant to be like this. Anyone else has experience with this?
Thanks

hi, anyone has seen this maybe?

I don't have SVE but I have SVS and I believe they have the same touch pad.
However, I don't have a problem with the touchpad.
You might go to your local store to check if they have SVE. -
i have exactly the same problem. this is fu..king ridicilous. i can believe sony produces this kind of crap. i am so so disappointed. basically i wont be able to use this touchpad, i will need external mouse. please readers DO NOT buy this notebook. it is crap.

SVS and SVZ series have superb trackpads, both smooth and very useable. However I felt that the T series wasn't as good and the SVE was a little better than my HP (bog standard) but I felt it is OK for day to day use have you tried tweaking it?
By no means are these trackpads the same, they may be manufactured by synaptics but they differ in model/chips, even the driver that Sony provides may differ between machines. -
Are alot of people having this problem or is it only on a few laptops?

My dad's Y580 has a rattle when tapping. He's only owned it 2 days. So, he hasn't had time to contact Lenovo. It was purchased via Newegg. So, I feel they will stand behind it. The thing is, I can't tell if it's broken or supposed to be that way.

I am a proud owner of an SVE1711X1EB as of today, and the touch pad does not "rattle" at all. Just press firmly and that's it.

The touchpad has a plastic cover which is not firmly glued to whatever is below. As a result when you try to press down to click, you sense two clicks, one when the cover gets back into position and the next with the actual switch. The cover over the touch pad rattles and is impossible to use with any degree of accuracy. This fault is so obvious I wonder how it even has left the factory floor.

Well, the touchpad on my laptop does not exhibit any of the symptoms you describe. Perhaps, I am lucky. Prior to ordering online, I checked out the same laptop model at a Sony store in London. That laptop also did not exhibit any touchpad issues.
