    Hi All,

I use a VAIO PCG-K37 and have had no problems. I wanted to upgrade the HD size, from 60GB to 320GB. I purchased a new WD 320GB HD and installed it. I used it for over a year before I noticed that the HD was working in PIO mode only. I could not get DMA mode for anything.

When I re-installed the WD 60GB HD it would report 'Ultra DMA Mode 5'. When I put the 320GB HD back in it will only report 'PIO' mode. When the 320GB HD is installed the event viewer will show 5 atapi timeout errors and 1 atapi controller error. The BIOS show the HD size as 137GB but when I formatted the HD it formatted to 298GB using NTFS. Since the HD was under warranty I sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement HD is doing the same thing. It will run in PIO mode only.

I seem to remember something about HD's larger than 137GB but now I can not find that information.

Can anyone point me in a direction to look for the problem?

    Thanks for any help,

    Charles
