    Hi VAIO Fans,

i´ve recieved my new configured vaio s13 yesterday. i5, 6gb RAM, BlueRay burner and 320 GB HDD and LTE Card for a good Price of 900,- EUR ins Germany :)

I´m looking Forward to Switch the HDD to a SSD 256 GB OCX with the recovery usb stick i´ve created. Problem is, i´m not sure if this is possible.
As i know from the S owners thread, there are several things that must be done after switching (defrag off, etc) but this should be working fine?

I think recovery on new ssd is the fastest way for me, there are no installed programs or data on the device

    Anyone tried this allready?

I´ve created a recovery usb stick but there is a big Problem: i can´t boot from it, every usb port is the same Problem!
i´ve shut down my vaio and press assist to start it up, select Option to boot from usb but nothing happend, only some short restarts (hard to tell what i mean)

What can i do? Is there anything i´ve to Change in bios?

Also, i can´t boot from a Acronis 2013 usb stick created with the latest Version...black Screen an nothing happend...

Did you figure it out? I also just received my S13 (SVS13A290x), and tried to back up windows (using backup and restore) and restore to a new SSD, and it failed. I have a 240 GB SSD, I shrunk the C drive partition down to 210GB before backing up (FYI - had to turn off system restore so I could shrink it from 1TB to 210 GB). I put in the boot disk and tried to restore the system image and it said that it failed. I also tried with a windows 8 disk that I had, but that failed too. So I just did a clean install of windows 8 and that worked fine. However, I'd still like to transfer the stock (sony) OS over, instead of a clean install, since I can never seem to get all the drivers working right (for example, I don't think the speed/stamina switch is working).

My guess is that I didn't shrink the C drive small enough. I'm going to try it again when I have time with a smaller C drive. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

You should be able to use another computer and create a Windows 8 boot disk, and then you can boot from that. I assume the issue is that you have the image on the USB drive, but no way to boot into the Windows recovery to recover that image.

I just replaced my Sony Vaio S15 with SSD by using recovery USB Drive. You should change the 2 settings in BIOS. First, in Boot configuration, enable external device boot. Second, put external device as the first boot priority. After you change this configuration, you'll be able to boot from your recovery USB Drive.

After buying a new usb 2.0 stick i did a recovery creation, shut down my system and change hdd to ssd. Power on with assist and booting with usb stick! The other usb stick was the problem!

Now, a few hours later, my recovery is written to my ssd and now is the part of configuration in windows 8 to use it with success.
Any hints about that? What is the most required thing i´ve to do after recovery to ssd?
