    Anyone tried to connect the HDMI port on the SA to a monitor using DisplayPort?

    I've bought a HDMI to DP cable and cannot get a signal on the monitor (Dell U2311H). If I connect the SA to my TV (HDMI to HDMI) it works fine. If I plug the DP end of my cable into the monitor it detects it.

    Is it likely to be a problem with the cable or have I missed something else that would stop this from working?

    TIA

    DP++ only works one way. DP output to HDMI input.

    I wanted to test this myself, to see if the AMD GPU configured all 5-6 of it's outputs as DP++ ports in HDMI/DVI shells, but I guess not...

    actually, were you on the AMD or Intel GPU?

    EDIT: it would be also fair to warn, DP runs at lower voltages, so I don't know about the effects it may have running a HDMI signal through...

    4GB integrated into mobo, + a 1GB stick I had laying around so at least the first 2GB would have dual channel speeds.

    Did you confirm that using some benchmark?

    I can confirm it with an Intel spec from 2004 or so....
    Desktop Boards — Single, dual, triple, and flex memory modes

    but even AMD does that, too :p

    In terms of benchmarks, I cannot specify which address range for a benchmark to test :(

    However, I mainly did this as a holdover until I got a cheap 4GB 1333 SODIMM.

    No, no. Just run a general PC benchmark and see if your score changes for the better with that extra 1GB in place. I have had problems with this when the two memory sticks weren't identical. Even the same spec'ed RAM from different manufacturers/batches is not guaranteed to give the expected benefit, and might even make things slower as the motherboard chipset tries to find a RAM setting that will work for both.

    Thanks. I tried through AMD and Intel GPU, rebooted and reconnected cables, no dice either way. Are you saying the only way the cable would work is if DP was on the laptop and HDMI on the monitor?

    On the same tack, if I order a HDMI > DVI cable instead, will I have the same problem?

    Yeah. It's for DP++ ports.

    As for the HDMI-->DVI, it will work, if it's on the U2311h (I had that monitor before) you mentioned earlier. U2711 would have a few quibbles with that :p
