On the VAIO SA laptop, I noticed that the fingerprint reader works fine with IE9.
But it does not work on firefox 5.0 at all. In fact it looks like the addon itself is not installed in firefox.

Does any one have a solution for this other than to wait for SONY to release a new update. Can we install the latest version of Authentec truesuite software/drivers from the vendors website? Would this lead to any compatibility issues?

    Thanks!

Quick Correction...the addon does exist....except that it does not work...had a quick chart with Sony Tech Support...and they have no clue either..They have scheduled a call for tomorrow with their tier2 tech.

    will keep everyone posted.

I forget where, but most addons have a compatibility version register in them. Just modify it to allow for version 5.0 of FF, then it *should* work.

Thank you for the reply. Well, I don't think its a version compatibility issue. The addons are enabled and firefox does not prompt with any messages.

I just got off the phone with a tier2 support guy from Sony HQ. He has no clue either. Apparently, the Authentec truesuite 4.0 app is a new one an he was not aware of it.

So, he will get back to me tomorrow with a response...I think I already know the answer...they are likely to comeback and say that v4.0 of the app cannot run on firefox 5.0...Typical support response...I guess.

Why dont you install it and see for yourself? If it doesn't work you have your answer. You can eaily do a system rollback in case you dont want to manually un-install later.
