Hi, I was thinking about upgrading to a 7200 RPM hard drive for my VAIO SR190.

I'm sure this voids warranty, but in the event that you need to send the laptop to Sony, couldn't you just put the original back in and they wouldn't notice?

Or does Sony at least offer a decent upgrade procedure where I can ship my laptop to them and they upgrade it? (probably more expensive than needs to be: shipping back and forth + parts and 'labor')

Can anybody recomend me the fastest, quiet cool HD compatible the SR190 and is at least 320 GB in size?

    thank you

If you need the fastest, then it's probably SSD. But if you need the biggest, then IMHO the best choice is WD Scorpio Black http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=477.

But note, that there is no big difference in speed with WD Scorpio Blue, http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=685 , however the difference in capacity is significant.

If there is not a warranty sticker stopping you opening the notebook, and you dont make a mess of the upgrade , just keep the original hdd, until you warranty is up and then sell it, if the notebook goes faulty put the original back in and return it.

thanks. the Scorpio black seems like a good fit.

but I can't seem to find the Free-Fall sensor version (WD3200BJKT) on newegg or tiger direct, says no longer available.

    did WD discontinue that version?
