    Hi there,

I've bought one new Seagate Momentus 7200.2 Hard Disk, which is SATA I and II compatible, and I don't know whether I have to set the speed to 1.5 GB/s by using a jumper or not. May I have problem if I don't force the HD to scale down at 1.5 GB/s or it does that automatically if the laptop doesn't support SATA II?

Other question: does the SATA controller of the SZ-1XX serie support the NCQ? Cause the HD has it and it would be nice if the laptop can use this feature!

If anyone has a detailed data sheet with such details please contact me!

    Thanks for answering!

I can't see that you will have a problem. These interfaces are backwards compatible and will use the fastest speed common to both the drive and the computer. I think that interface may be 1.5Gb/s (small b for bits, not big B for bytes). Either way, the interface is faster than the speed at which data can be read or written through the heads, so this extra speed only works for such data as is in the HDD's cache.

When you have the HDD running please use software such as HD Tune to test its speed and report back.
