If I replace my hard drive with a higher capacity one, will I be able to restore the laptop with the Sony recovery DVDs?

Will it be legal to do that?

I'm not absolutely sure, but a better option would be to copy your existing disk to the new one using a disk imaging tool such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost. When I bought my bare Seagate drive it also came with a version of Acronis that allowed me to easily copy the disk image over, and then change the size.

You would do this by installing the software, then attach the new disk via USB (you'll need an external USB case for it) and copy the disk image over.

Yes you can use the DVD, and yes it will work. The DVDs do not check for your hard drive, only the model of the comp to verify that the DVDs are indeed for that model. Using your key is also fine to my understanding.
