Hi, I just bought a TZ off ebay with a damaged screen and of course I can't see anything. I was just wondering if there is any way I can connect the machine to an external monitor so that I can perform a recovery? Because atm, it doesn't display anything on the external monitor when powered up.... but I know the MB is working because the no. lock, cap keys etc. all flash when I boot up and they CAPS key etc. lights up when I press it... Much appreciated.

Try FN +F7 once or twice and wait a few seconds, after you are into windows (judging by sounds)? Let me know.

Hi bejand, thanks for the suggestion... but it came with no HDD and I just bought one off ebay. I have the recovery CDs and I just want to try to recover the OS so I don't have windows atm... I've seen a few laptops on ebay that seem to be able to show stuff on the external monitors without even booting into windows - i.e. the VAIO logo on the monitor

yeah, something isn't working right. sounds like more is wrong than a broken screen and missing hard drive. :(

But its weird... I actually bought it to fix as you guys would prob. know... So, I have tested a lot of different VAIO models - TX1HP and the SZ series doesn't seem to boot on the external monitor without booting into windows, the N series seemed to boot into the external monitor as far as I can remember... I will test the FS later... does yous show on the monitor as soon as you connect the monitor cable to the laptop and power it on ?

Thanks for the confirmation... It is quite annoying actually because I bought a TX as I thought the screen would be compatible but Sony being daft again changed the connector type... So they are not compatible... Does anyone know if there is away to make them compatible?
