I had downgraded my VGN-TZ11XN to XP, and with Sony's XP display drivers, I could only set the display to 1024x768. However, I found out that the solution was quite simple (hopefully this may help others to get at it quickly):

In the "Properties"-dialog of the graphics settings of the desktop, under the "Monitor"-tab, there's a sneaky checkbox which reads "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Uncheck that checkbox, and voila, 1366x768 becomes available.

Seems to be some problem with the "Display"-part of Sonys graphics driver.
