Are any of the Sony updates worth installing if your system appears to be running normally? I have a Z51 with Windows 7. I do allow Windows to update itself with critical updates only, but at the moment with a new laptop I am a little nervous about letting Sony around with firmware and hardware drivers.
From what I've read since joining the Sony fraternity, Sony are not exactly known for providing consistency in the performance of their drivers and firmware, and their 'customer service' is not known for its technical expertise.
So the question is this;
Should people download updates from Sony if their is nothing wrong with their laptop?
What does the update do? -
It never worked on my fw-180d from day one, I even tried updating it still did not work, and support had no answers as to why. After installing windows 7, I have not installed any of sony utilities and the laptop runs great.

In the year I've had my Z, Vaio Update has always reported "There are no updates available at this time", even though there are. It can't be trusted.
-
Don't install this bloatware.

The consensus of the board, across most of the threads, seems to be - Never install any Sony update or driver unless you have absolutely no other option and there is a definite fault. There seems to be no real support, trust or justification for Sony's ability to provide software, firmware, drivers etc.
Has Sony ever offered up a member of staff to defend their company's reputation on the boards? Let's face it, this is one of the most well established and well respected public boards on the net.
