Hi all,
I've been talking about the Z so much, my father now wants to order one! I found this deal via Amazon that seems pretty good to me:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VGN-Z550...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220805377&sr=8-2
its for the VGN-Z550 with 3 gigs ram, 250 gb hdd, P8600 - which seems more than enough for my father - all for $1788 with free shipping and no tax. This seems like a great deal to me, and I just wanted to get your opinion before I jump on it.
Are there any downsides to ordering from Amazon? Does this deal seem good to you? My plan is to order it for him, ship it here - then clean install vista and add some apps for him, then ship it out to him.
Thanks as always!
EDIT: Note that my father does want a warranty on it - and amazon has third parties that sell them, but I called up Sony and they said it would be no problem to purchase one directly for it.
-
I got mine from amazon. No problems..
This is a great deal! -
Do they ship to Europe? Is indeed a great price!
-
How is Amazon's return policy with laptops?
If it is broken, do they accept returns? -
Right now, its even cheaper than the lower end Z520 and Z530 models they are also selling!
People should take advantage of this while it lasts! -
That is a great deal at Amazon.com!

yes I think its a price mistake on their part - the lower end models like stated above are pricier lol - I would act FAST if I was looking into this not a bad deal
-
its no mistake, for some reason sony seems to be phasing out that particular model, i bought this one from amazon and it had a bunch of dead pixels, returned it back to them and bought the 570 instead
-
-
Just because it had a bunch of dead pixels doesn't mean its being phased out unless you have some other info. -
Maybe it is being phased out because of the 250GB hard drive. Sony seems to move 320GB hard drives. The same with Z530N http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/sony-vaio-z-series-vgn-z530n.aspx

Hey all,
Thanks for your comments. If Sony happens to be phasing this particular model out - I think its more likely that its a business decision as opposed to any particular model having more defects. Anyway, I went ahead and ordered one for my father yesterday and Amazon already had a tracking number for me this morning! I will let you know when it arrives if there are any issues with it.
All the best! -
Great deal. I feel mine was worth it at full MSRP.

jpoe, we expect pics and a first impression review
congrats! -
Yes and no, it cost $66 bucks for me to ship it back to them fedex/insured/etc. They reimbursed me 11... I might give them a call to ask for some more since that doesn't seem right as they required it be sent insured and trackable. -
However! After seeing how fast Amazon shipped his out, I canceled my Z591 that I ordered Aug 15th and was still waiting for, and re-ordered it from Amazon. And they say they should ship it sometime today, scheduled for overnight delivery... Which means I MAY get to clean install both of them at the same time! -
this is a good deal... might make me think twice about ordering an sr...
-
Back up to $1,915 on Amazon...
-
I guess it's not "phased out" =]
I'm glad I jumped in before the price went up. -
what the? wasn't it just $1,698 a few hours ago?
-
If you didn't, you are out of luck man...
I was in the same situation, contacted them on saturday and got my credit for $89.xx. -
nah, i acted too late... SOL!
-
part of me is pissed about it, but then part of me feels okay since i got it at a price better than the current $1,915... i just wish it would ship already!

Dont forget to call Sony within 30 days and get your warranty too after laptop! (or did Amazon begin selling em too??)
-
It's not that different from the z520 that Amazon has for $1715 or so... Slightly slower processor, identical otherwise.
-
btw, just received it... and after sending a couple emails to amazon customer service, they ended up honoring the price adjustment, so i did get it for $1,690! don't ask me how, since the price had already gone up to $1,900+ by the time i contacted them...
