I just bought a new VAIO FZ, but the webcam wont work on AIM for video chatting (incase you are wondering I'm not a 45 year old pedophile I'm a 16 year old teen who wants to chat with his cousin).

Any fixes or alternate IM programs?

I am having the same problem. I bought a brand new FZ just before I left for Iraq to use for video chat with my wife. I have updated AIM, reloaded the cam driver, and contacted Sony. They told me to reload the driver. The camera only appears to work with the included VAIO Camera Capture Utility. I cannot get it to work with anything else (I also tried Live Messenger). Does anyone have a solution for this?

I know that the Webcam works fine with ICQ 6 (on an SZ). But that's another software...
However, if you just want to chat with a relative, get an ICQ number each (all you need, a nickname and an e-mail adress) and use that.

And if you start to really like ICQ, there's QIP, a Russian software whcih doesn't incorporate any advertisements, but hasn't the webcam capability either, but then, it wrks off an USB drive on any computer.
The new QIP infinium (or so) could possibly support messenger or camera, I don't know yet.
(I need ICQ to stay in touch with my few friends in Germany after I moved house in the EU...)

My Sony SR129E webcam works fine on AIM for about a minute until it starts to lag up my whole network on my wireless. Does anyone know the problem?

my Sony: Vista Business SP1 - webcam works straight with Skype, MSN and ICQ, - sorry OP, have not yet tried AIM, never used it, so hard to say, but i suspect that AIM needs an update.

    cheers ...

There were some networking issues with Vista, especially before SP1.
For example, playing an MP3 of a network drive will basically shut down the network as the Vista omputer would use all the bandwidth.

But most/all these issues have been resolve in SP1, at least as far as I know.

agreed. yahoo messenger is the true multi media messenger. can't beat it. its got drag and drop (had it way before aim did), doodle feature (live paint..send loved ones live drawings), phone service, great webcam usage very simple, ect..

when i had my FZ i remember aim not being able to use it as well. i havent tried it with the SR, but w/e...yahoo loves every cam.

    I'd say get ICQ :D
And I only use it because of friends after I moved house...

(And then QIP ->minimalist software, but due to that, great)
