    Hi,
I wonder if anyone could help me out on this: I have been trying to connect my VPCZ13 with a SONY DCR-PC330E DV camcorder, through the built-in i-Link interface. I've bought a 4pin to 4pin firewire cable, but when I connect the camcorder nothing happens. No hardware detection changes and Adobe Premier shows the camera as offline. Please note that the same camera works perfectly with my desktop pc, where I use a 4pin to 9pin firewire cable. Things I've tried:
    1. Another 4-to-4 firewire cable, but same results
    2. Connected to a firewire hard disk and worked properly
    3. Another DV cam, with no success.
Is the 4-to-4 pin firewire cable the right one? Should I use a special SONY cable? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

There is no special cable, iLink is firewire. Make sure you turn ON the camera when you plug it in because 4pin doesnt have power pins.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
@avmaxfan: Thanks for the link. I did buy a 4-to-4 pin firewire cable for 4.50 euro. I wouldn't have thought that the Sony one is any different, right?
@flipfire: Yep, I always switch the camera on.
Has anyone actually successfully accomplished connecting a VPC-Z i-Link to a Sony DV camera?

My VPC-Z does not have i-Link, VGN-Z that I had before, did and worked fine with video camera.

Here's a shot in the dark. When you install Windows from scratch and it cannot find drivers for regular network devices, Windows installs a virtual network driver on top of Firewire device. That may interfere with camera operation. I saw that happening in the past.

Thanks ZugZug, I'll check this out, too. I use VirtualBox which does install a virtual network driver... Will let you know.
