    Hi all

I have just noticed that my keyboard backlight is no longer working on my VAIO Z1.

More specifically when I cover the light sensor on the keyboard the screen backlight will dim but the keyboard backlight does nothing.

When I look at my options in VAIO Control Centre under Keyboard and Mouse there is no option for Backlit KB on my system. Searching this forum I should have an option called Backlit KB. See screen grab from my computer compared with what it should like according to the web.

Any ideas how to fix this issue?

    Cheers.

Boot your computer into BIOS (press F2 upon the VAIO logo) and cover the sensor then. Your keyboard BL should come on then. If yes, it seems to be a software issue - reinstall all those sony utilities - if not it is most likely a hardware fault. In the latter case, disassemble your Z and check the keyboard ribbon cable, and the keyboard assembly for dirt or liquid residues (what happened since your BL does not work anymore? Did you accidentally spill something over the keyboard?) that may have caused some short circuit or something. Does everything else still work?

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried rebooting and entering BIOS. Covering the sensor while in BIOS does nothing. Neither the screen or the keyboard change.

Just to reiterate (when booted normally) covering the sensor makes the screen dim BUT the keyboard does not light. Therefore I can assume that the sensor and its connections to the screen are intact.

I had my VAIO in for a service for a loose hinge a few months ago and it is entirely possible they have damaged the keyboard light.

HOWEVER, isn't it odd that in the VAIO Service Centre software I no longer have any option to change settings for the "Backlit KB"?

    Cheers
