I received my new Z1290x last week with a 1920x1080 display and have notice an increasingly severe but intermitten problem with one pixel wide red lines running vertically along boxes -- sometimes to the right and sometimes to the rest of the black line or otherwise colored edge of a box. In addition, sometimes now I see a blue line running horizontally along the top edge of he same box.

I know this is a problem. When I tried tech support -- at least at the non-supervisory level, the woman was clueless; she tried reinstalling my Intel and NVIDIA device driveres.

Is this something I can fix myself with software or is this the type of problem for which I need to return the notebook to Sony?

Check if you see this same line in BIOS setup. Have you also tried both Intel and NVidia modes (i.e. Stamina & Speed)?

Yes, I have tried both settings...the problem is prevalent regardless. Also, the cursor also blinks with a red vertical line on its right side if a new tab is opened.

Boot a Linux livecd and see whether the same problem exists there. If it does, it's almost certainly hardware fault.

If not, you might have the Windows subpixel configuration set incorrectly (like Windows believing it is a BGR instead of RGB display)
