I'm getting ready to order a CTO Z13 but am on the fence on a couple of the options. I'd really like to go for the 1920x1080 premium display, but noticed that the description doesn't mention it being a matte display like the 1600x900 display. Does anyone know if the HD Premium display is glossy or matte? I hate the reflectiveness of a glossy or glass display and think I would rather go with the lower res screen if it means I don't have to deal with light reflection.

    Thanks in advance.

Both VAIO Z displays (HD and FHD) are matte. The FHD is sharper, black is a bit fainter than on the HD, has more real estate. HD has better contrast, can be brighter and fonts are more readable when at 100% dpi. It's up to you. :)

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Since they're both matte I'm going to spring for the HD display since I'm including a Blu-ray drive with my build. Merry Christmas to me :D

Note that neither screen is a true matte screen (it's certainly not matte like a typical business notebook, such as a thinkpad etc, and the previous VGN-Z). I would say it's more of a glossy screen with a coating that makes it a bit less reflective. So while you can see some reflections in the screen, it's not like looking in a mirror as it is on many consumer notebooks.

Both the HD and FHD (1080p) screens are similar in terms of their coating. Ashers is correct, it is more of a semi-matte with an anti-reflective coating. I cannot see my reflection on the screen indoors and it is quite pleasant to look at.

However, in full sunlight, outdoors then it is more semi-gloss cf. standard matte (e.g. ThinkPad, Dell Latitude) notebooks. I have the Latitude e6400.

The FHD screen has more real estate but requires good eyesight and a week to get used to the smaller default font size. The HD screen has nicer contrast but overall both are fantastic.

You can litteraly say that is exactly in between matte and glossy and combines the advantages of both.

While reducing the mirroring reflective disturbing effect known from the glossy screens like the mapple laptops, it provides glossy-screen-typical great contrast and vivid color reproduction (I compared with a matte Lenovo W500 for >2k$, which looked somewhat undersaturated and pale).

Thanks for the extra info everyone. So I should expect the screen to be a little more glossy than the one on my TT right?

In any case, I placed my order yesterday and should have my new Z next week! Here is the config I went with:

    Core™ i7-640M
4GB DDR3 (have some extra RAM that I will install myself)
    Full HD Premium Display
    Blu-ray Disc™ Player/Burner
    Win7 Pro 64-bit
    256GB (128GBx2) SSD
    Premium Carbon Fiber Lid

Yes, I ponied up the extra cash for the unnecessary carbon fiber lid, but I really like that finish on my TT so I figured why not? Besides, I get a discount through my employer so it's not too bad.

    Now, the agonizing waiting game!
