So, I double click on the VAIO update button... and I get an error message saying I'm not currently connected to the internet !!!
WTF?!!
Then how am I posting this message ?!![]()
Anyone else have this problem ?

That happened to me too. Go into your internet connection settings and set up your internet connection from scratch. I was trying to set up a Bluetooth DUN connection that didn't work, and any VAIO features that depended on an internet connection wouldn't recognize my LAN connection until I went through the IE "Internet connection wizard" again. Hope this helps!!!

The Bluetooth DUN must be the root of the problem...
I was trying to set up DUN with my HTC Wizard (aka UTStarComm PPC 6700, K-Jam, QTek 9100, or the other 1000 names it's known as !)
But those **** Toshiba drivers set my COM port to 40 instead of 6 or 7, which is the only ones my phone accepts...
I found some info on these two sites... but it sounds like a hassle to set up... did you find a solution ?

I'll try out your fix tonite and tell you what comes of it. -
Nah, I never got it working and gave up on it for now... the Bluetooth stack implementation on this machine is pathetic for DUN purposes. I'll keep trying later when I get some free time. If anyone gets this to work, please post which handset/carrier combo you were using!

It's a great modem for situations like checking email when you are a passenger in a car (don't try it while driving!) or when you are not near a WiFi hotspot. The connection is very slow, however, so it's not so great for web-surfing, but I have done even a little of that. This afternoon I got a ride from JFK airport to midtown Manhattan and I was able to maintain the GPRS connection with my SZ160 and h6315 during the entire time we were in the Borough of Queens.
About a month ago, I checked the connection speed using the speed tests on DSLReports.com and found that the connection was about 50K down and about 9K up. I'm sure that EVDO and even EDGE would beat the GPRS connection speed any day, but will never beat the price, at least for me: I'm already paying for unlimited GPRS as part of my TMO contract.
The HP h6315 uses the GPRS data connection of the GSM-based T-Mobile network, so you could even get an Internet connection using this setup in any other country with a GSM system, unlike EVDO. Unfortunately, TMO does not sell the h6315 anymore, but I believe that Cingular sells a variant, the HP h6515.
VAIO update... your computer is not connected to the internet ?!
