So I'm looking at the FS780 and all it says is the drive is ata100, what use is that?! Well, then after digging around a LOT I finally find here that the drive is in fact 4200rpm, which sucksI'm looking at using a laptop for real time audio recording, processing and doing gigs. 4200rpm is not good enough....
Is there a vaio with similar spec to the 780 (around 2Ghz centrino, 15" wide screen are the 2 importnat things) with at least a 5400rpm disk?
It's a dam pity becuase I the rest of the 780 is just about exactly what I want and I really like the style/looks too..
So the second question is, would it be pretty easy to replace the 4200 disk with a faster one? I've built many many PCs but never taken apart a laptop, once it's apart is it as easy to swap a disk in a lappy as a desktop? Or can it cause heat and power problems or anything else i may not consider?

uuuh why not the Vaio FE with 2.0GHZ duo core with 15.4 widescreen and 5400rpm hard drive and it looks like the FS!!!
-
Why not just upgrade the hard drive?
-
why do the extra work? You can buy the FE and don't have to open it up and switch out anything...
-
its no problem to switch the hard drive. theres a bay on the bottom specifically for that to provide easy access. i switched the drive out of my fs790 and put in a hitachi 7200rpm
VAIO website not clear about HD speed!
