Ok, whilst we are all talking about issues with batterydrain, does anyone know if leaving the supplied MemoryCard ExpressCard in the slot has any effect on Battery life / performance?

It would be convenient to leave it in whilst travelling but not if it is going to suck the battery dry.

Can't find any info on this myself.

    Thanks

i'm guessing no. it SHOULD only draw power if something is plugged in. The power issue that i'm having is due to two programs running. in stam mode those prog dont run and in regular mode they do. since my cards are inserted during both. I dont think this is the problem

If I'm not mistaken, ExpressCard solutions can use either USB or PCI Express as the internal bus. The Sony memory reader card happens to be a USB device, so it might be affected by the USB/Windows XP power bug... but I can't say for sure.

Anyone got an answer to this? Does the express card reader drain the battery when it's plugged in but not in use?

Interesting point, It is true that the expresscard can run off USB bus or PCI bus and it dosent neccasarily have to be drawing power to be causing the battery issue, as long as the laptop see's it as being there it wont enter the higher sleep states, At the same time I get 4 hours from my FE with the expresscard in which is the max The battery is supposed to be able to get.
