I have a Sony Vaio Z11 and I'm noticing flickering when connected via VGA to my LCD (Samsung 19'' 1280X1024). I tried the VGA connection at work (22'' Acer), and I also saw flickering. My other devices with VGA seemed to work perfectly, so I ruled out the possibility of a defective monitor or cables.
What could be the issue?

Take a look at the lan cables. Maybe they are insufficient insulated.
-
No lan/ethernet cables are connected.

Your external monitor might not like the 59 Hz (NTSC video compatibility) refresh rate. Switch it to 60 Hz and see whether that helps.
-
it's running at 60 hz and still flickering. my desktop has no problems with this lcd. could this be a defective vga out on my z?
-
Update: I notice that when I plug in the power for my laptop, I get the flickering. Is this poor grounding or something?

When you plug your notebook in, does it automatically switch power plans... a la balanced to performance?
-
I'm not sure if it switches, but apparently this screen flicker when plugged in is common amongst other laptops.

time to get a 3-2 prong adapter. -
Too bad to hear this flickering problem in Z11 when I almost decide to buy a Z12. It is like my ASUS tablet and the external LCD is flickering whenever the ASUS is on AC. Could anyone check whether this problem is also present in Z12 or not? I suffered this problem with my ASUS tablet for 3 years, and was hoping that a new Z12 will solve this issue.
-
Most likely the Z12 is affected. Another remedy to this problem is use DVI/HDMI. I think only VGA is affected by this flickering.
-
Are you sure HDMI will not have this problem? My LCD monitor does have an HDMI port to work with Z12's HDMI port. I can't try this on my ASUS tablet as it only has a VGA output.

i don't recall getting this problem on hdmi out, but i don't have a cable to test at this moment.
