    Hello every one,

I purchased a Sony vaio VGC-LS1 machine, along with a 2 DVD Recovery kit & retail XP MCE 2005.

    My queries are:

    1. when I install the OS using the recovery dvd kit , 3rd party trial softwares get installed like NIS 2006 etc.

When I remove NIS 2006 using add/remove programs & the symantec suggested methods I still get an ocassionally appearing XP securirty warning that my Norton Antiworm isnot enabled, your computer is at a risk.......this pop up stays for a few seconds & than disappears......

    2. when I try to fresh intsall XP MCE 2005 on this machine, despite installing the drivers from Sony support site, I face some issues like the removable drives i.e Memory stick Pro & SD/MMC are missing from my computer, there is a missing driver displaying a yellow icon in the device manger Mass storage, & certain vaio drivers like Note book control, Vaio camera utility are absent not available at the sony support site.

I want to install XP MCE 2005 according to my needs, not being forced by Sony to use Norton or trend Micro or AOL......& that too trial 60 day versions.

Sony support doesnt provide all the drivers needed.....

Hoping to hear from ya soon,

    Regards!

So your trying to do a clean install I take it, the easiest way is to just remove all the bloatware after using the recovery dvds. To make XP stop displaying information about not having an anti-virus you simply click in the Microsoft Security Center "change the way I am notified" and deselect anti-virus, I usually deselect everything.

If you obtain a OEM version of MCE most likely by purchasing it seperatly you may need to add SATA drivers to the install package, as well as hunting down the needed drivers which you said can be hard to find.

The second easiest method is to (providiing that you have an OEM version of Media Center Edition 2005) download and install Nlite, use a driver capture program and add them to your install and burn a new set of DVDs/ or CDs.

It's quite unfortunate for us all that barely ANY companies offer an option to purchase a clean install set of Microsoft software CDs, however the bloatware does help cut the price of the system.

Good Luck, also try Crap Cleaner Ccleaner.com

it helps remove the leftover registry entries from bloatware
software and will fix corrupted entries aswell, as removing leftover software from uninstallations.

    Hi thanx for your comments,

Exactly am trying to Clean install with out the JUNK.

Alreday have tried manipulating with the security center but still the error pops up ocassionally but regularly.

I do have a retail version but how do I use Nlite if you could bother to explain?

Is it possible to copy to contents of the Recovery DVDs on to the hardrive & remove tha trial junk, & than burn them....will this help?

    Hoping to hear your views,

    Regards,

PS: Have 3 Browsers IE, AOL, Netscape & despite Core Duo CPU & 2 GM of mem it takes time to open.........

OEM is really light & cool.....but has other issues........im stuck.

Sorry I should have explained a bit more, Nlite can be downloaded from here:

    http://nuhi.olmik.net/new/nLite-1.3.rc2.installer.exe

The driver backup tool can be downloaded here:

    http://www.driver-soft.com/download.html

It's a trial version but it works for saving the drivers.

Using the driver capture you select the drivers that you want to save for the reinstall, then you save them to a selected folder. After which you use Nlite, it will eventually ask you if you want to add drivers to the install, you copy and paste the drivers from the capture program.

The way nLite works is it copies your retail DVD or CD and then you edit the install package to your liking also adding or removing selected drivers.
At the end it will give you the option to save as an .ISO image or to burn a DVD or CD, I would burn as a DVD or CD, then you use the Disc/s to install Windows :)

Just make sure your backup all your important drivers such as SATA, Chipset, Video card, and whatnot.

Good luck, PM me if you have any more questions.
