Hello,
i am struggling to get sony functional buttons (FN+S1,S2+Wireless switch) to work with windows 7 64 bit. After trying different versions of
Sony Shared Library
Sony Setting utilities
Sony Event Service
i still can't get something more than simple window for sound adjustment (FN + F3,F4,F5).
Is it possible to let all sony functional buttons to work like in Vista?
If it is possible, can you post exact versions of:
Sony Shared Library
Sony Setting utilities
Sony Event Service
?
P.S. I have SPIC 8.0.1.2 and SFEP 8.0.1.2.

According to the Sony Site for your model they have the drivers for Windows 7 64 bit. For function buttons order of driver install is important.
Normally required in this order:
Sony Shared Library - 1 file
Notebook Control and Utilities - 3 files
Also may want to check this out from Sony on installing driver order (generic to all models but does help with order to ensure buttons/functions will work.

The Sony Windows 7 64bit files are junk, don't bother.
In fact Windows 7 support on the SZ from Sony is a joke all around. The Windows 7 stuff lacks a lot, and if you call support, they will tell you they don't support it, which is good, since if you follow their stuff, you end up with a crippled machine.
You need to use the Vista32bit files.
While this usually works, it doesn't always , obviously.
The link in my signature may hold the key though.
I'm going to be redoing it this week (I hope) and it should improve things for other models. -
I already tried:
a) Vista 32 bit drivers
b) sony official windows 7 64 bit drivers
c) all the steps from the link in leslieann's signature
d) some other versions of shared libraries, setting utilities and event service
all in vain... Only volume popup window shows.
I suppose the problem in SPIC and SFEP. Probably some old versions of these HID interfaces will help.
And i wonder if anybody from this forum with sz6 notebook make all the buttons work? -
I would try a re-install. They should be working.

Thanks for help. At last i downloaded drivers&utilities pack from http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/222729-100-working-clean-vista-x64-install-sz6.html and it worked for me like a charm... except camera and nvidia graphic card (i took the drivers from leslieann link) and Fn-F1 - wireless menu (probbably it needs SmartWi, but i use Smart Network - it's enough for me)
Also i have updated Event Service (SOAVES-01573000-UN.exe) because of language problems... -
Yes, you need Smart-Wi for that FN button to work.
There are alternatives to Smart-wi to get the functionality, but the FN button itself will never work. -
Has anyone gotten the green light to work on the webcam yet for this device? If so, what driver was used? Thanks
-
It can, but you have to reset the driver each time you relog, it's simply not worth it.

Ok I didn't read your post leslieann where you said the Sony 64 bit windows files are junk. I updated all the components to the new version that sony was hosting and it ruined everything. None of the function keys work besides the volume. I uninstallled all of those now to retry your guide. However, when trying to install Sony shared library from your guide, it says I cannot because a newer one is installed. I deleted the Sony Shared folder from common files in both the x86 and x64 program files so there shouldn't be an issue. Any idea on how I can fix this? I just want to get rid of all the official Sony drivers I got today and restart using your guide. Thanks and sorry if that wasn't clear.
This is the exact message I get when attempting to install leslieann's Sony Shared Library: A newly version has already been installed. Installation is stopped. -
You'll need to go into the regedit to do so.
-
I'm a noob, where exactly do i go once in regedit to delete it? Thank you so much for helping
-
Uninstall anything Sony, then go into c:\program files(x86)\ and delete everything Sony.
Then download ccleaner (ccleaner.com) and run the registry cleaner (one of the safer registry cleaners out there). Restart then start over.
If you are lucky it will wipe out the Sony registry entries and allow you to re-install everything. If not, then you have the fun job of going through the registry manually and trying to find the entry or reloading the OS. Being a noob, do the latter. Registry editing is not for the timid. -
Done all of that. Cleaned all the Sony entries in the registry I could find. Problem exists because stupid v5 of sony shared library didn't come with an uninstaller. So I followed ( Setting Up Sony VAIO Event Service on Windows 7 x86 / Windows 7 x64 for Brightness (Fn+F5/Fn+F6), Mute/Volume (Fn+F2/Fn+F3/Fn+F4), and Monitor Switching (Fn+F7) Control - Komeil Bahmanpour) to uninstall it.
I'm going to keep searching for sony files a little longer, then I'll just restore if it doesn't work.
EDIT: System Restore won't even work. I've done so many installs and uninstalls with different drivers today it has become one big headache. Just gotta get rid of this sony shared library and then everything will be fine. -
Any ideas where to look in regedit? I gotta get rid of this thing, it's driving me crazy!
EDIT: NVM!!! Just got it working. Had to delete Sony folder i found using the search feature in the registry. Thanks
