    Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded to Vista Business on my VGN FE 550G laptop.

The one thing that I can't get to work is the web camera that the laptop has built in. I've tried the drivers and they don't work. Here's an image of the error I receive when installing the camera filter driver... http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errormz8.jpg

I don't know why it gives me that error. If you could help, please do so.

    Thanks!

Hello, Unfortunately I don't have the answer to your problem but I was wanting to say that I have the same computer as you and my web cam works in IMs, But it does not show up in ''computer'', And it does not work in movie maker, But I have too downloaded and installed the camera updates, And they did not work, I do hope someone can help us with the problems, The only differences is I have windows vista home premium, I do not know if this will help you but I have found out that if you do a clean install of windows XP then upgrade to windows vista it seems to help with some of the other problems that you may be experiencing, Windows vista is very sensitive, Windows Vista does have some good qualities but is undoubtedly sensitive and unstable at times, If anyone has any information about how to correct the web cam problems please list the information here.

More Info: I get the same error massage as you in the photo you provided but even thought it brings up the error massage box it says that it as been successfully installed on the first box, So thats weird, But with it not fixing the web cam then it still needs work.

Hello, I Still do not have the answer to the problem but after more looking and searching I did find a free DVD/Movie maker that you can use to capture video using the built in web cam, The link is below and the Program I am talking about is ''Download Video DVD Maker FREE'', It dose not do much but it will allow you to capture video and then you can use movie maker to actually make your move by editing it and such. I hope this helps, That was my only problem was that I need a movie maker to recognize my web cam and this is free and it works. This should be of some use to you, Thank you and I help this helps.

One thing I just noticed about that DVD/movie maker, Is it makes huge files but that can be fixed in Movie maker once you get the video captured, You can fix the file size in Movie maker then get rid of the original File, Again this is just a way to use the built in web cam for video capture with vista until a real solution becomes available.

I will try to find a better free dvd/movie maker that we can use.

It is the one before the last one that I am talking about.

I had the same issue on my SZ that I did a clean Vista install on. The vista drivers would not load, and gave me the same error. I downloaded the XP software, and now it works fine. Go figure...

Thank you TEKWRX and Chump for your reply, But that dose not fix the problem, At least for me, But like I said the built in cam works in IM's it just don't work in Movie maker, But I use ''Video DVD Maker FREE'' to capture video. But soon I hope to get a new computer that comes with vista already on it and a built in web cam, I would be getting a new computer anyway, But I do think that a new computer with vista already on it and a web cam is the only way for some computers with vista to recognize certain things like built in web cams.
