Looking to make some upgrades on my VGN S360 and have a few questions. LOL, I can't believe how old this system seems now. :)

    1. Memory -- will this work? It was the only 172pin micro-Dimm I could find on Newegg. It will bring my system up to 1 Gb.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820136020

    2. Hard drive -- will this work? I currently have a 60Gb 4200rpm drive.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146046

2a) Should I go with a 5400rpm or the 7200rpm? I know 7200 is faster than 5400 but is it that much faster? I'm assuming any upgrade from my current 4200 will seem fast.

2b) I can't for the life of me find the website or forum post that had detailed instructions with pictures on how to replace the hard drive. Anyone have that link handy? I think the model used was the 260P.

    3. I think I have a DVD / CDR-RW drive. Can this be upgraded to a DVD-R/RW?

    4. Is there a complete parts list available anywhere for the S360 preferrably including a schematic diagram as well?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Yes that memory works. Since your default config is 512MB, adding another 512MB will clock you in at 1GB. BUT, most likely you'll be running with TWO 256MB's of memory. In translation, you might end up with 767MB of memory.

    2. Depends. Performance vs (Battery & Silence). Also you want to check seek and latency times. Just because it's 7200 doesn't mean it's great at it. Hitachi in general are pretty good drives though.

    3. I have no clue :p

    4. Refer to Speed's post. 2nd page theres a link to MegaUpload with all the disassembly guides.

To Nr.3 should be no problem, just be sure to get a DVD-RW which has an IDE connector and the right size. The S5 and up all had SATA DVD-RW drives, so they won't be of much ust to you.
