VGN was the older model number system. VPC's tend to be newer 2010+ models...

The VGN prefix before the model number was just the old line of computers. After they kind of ran out of numbers for their numbering system, they switched to VPC as the prefix so they could restart the numbering. Before VGN I think it was PCG.

VGN stands for "Very Good Notebook", while VPC is "Volvo Personal Communicator" :D

Well the VGNs, at least the ones I own, are way pickier than the only VPC that I have

    VPC - Vaio Personal Computer

VGN - Vaio General Notebook (my wild guess)

No, they are somewhat different. I prefer the colors of VGN's.

VGNs are over a year old now. VGNs were 2009 and earlier, we are half way through 2011. The majority of VGNs out there are two or more years old.

Well the VPC-Z came out in Q1 2010, but still, the VGN-Z is considered old ever since Q1 2010, and it was released well back in 2008.
