If you have a sony a190, what volume settings do you use? I have to have the physical speaker volume dial at about 90% and app's (eg Windows Media, or GigaRocket) at ~90% to be listenable. Especially GigaRocket, which I need to crank up the system volume to 100% to listen to TV conversation.

Is that normal? And yes, my hearing is fine.

Is there any power getting to these speakers (through the USB perhaps?). It seems like computer speakers I've had where you don't switch their power on.

If this is it, I can live with it, but running volume at near 100% when you are sitting within 3 feet of them doesn't seem optimal.

    Thanks,
    David.

    Crdjm,

I have mine running about 50% on the volume dial and have system volume set to 80% with WMP cranked right up and that is loud by my standards, if I turn everything right up it is too loud for my taste but I must admit I have heard louder speaker systems and I am not a big fan of excessively loud music. (I have quite a noisy AC unit running right above my head also)

The USB conexion is purely for the IR reciever for the remote, there is a seperate mini jack conexion for the volume control and without that connected the speaker do not work.

Maybe drop in to Circuit City or somewhere and ask to try out the display model. That would give you an idea of whether you have a duff amp or not. My local Best Buy (Portland, Maine) sells it but does not display or demo it..... Most disturbing that they expect you to pay over 2500 bucks for something without seeing it! which is exactly why I went 500 yards down the road and paid 40 bucks extra from circuit city.

    Peanutt uses
    Sony TR1MP / Sony A190 (New) / Toshiba E805 PPC / Sony Ericsson P900

Mine rocks! I blast music all the time with it... LOL! Some TV stations do broadcast with low volume, but this thing compensates just fine. I have the volume knob at about 90%, Main at whatever the situation requires. Gotta love that remote!
